On the most beautiful college campus in the country, SMU Mustangs are energized by unbridled opportunities – from teaching, learning and research to creativity, performance and athletic endeavor.About the Position:This role is an on-campus, in-person position.The Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards facilitates the student conduct process for Southern Methodist University (SMU), including oversight for the hearing, adjudicating, and determination of responsibility for alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct. The Director educates the University community about the Code of Conduct and responsible behavior and oversees the training and advising of the University hearing boards, hearing officers, and Honor Council. The Director also supervises two staff members within the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.Essential Functions:

    Oversees and facilitates the hearing, adjudication, and determinations of responsibility for alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct for individuals and student organizations.Advises faculty and staff members regarding the student conduct process as well as third parties, including parents, related to conduct questions.Coordinates assessment initiatives and regular reporting regarding student conduct, including Clery reporting, SACS reporting, and database management.Supervises two staff members within the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.Oversees the development and implementation of an outreach plan designed to build relationships that help to educate the SMU student community about the Code of Conduct and responsible behavior.Oversees the training and advising of the University hearing boards, hearing officers, and Honor Council.Serves on University and Division committees as requested, including the Dean of Students Leadership Team, the Caring Community Connections Team, and the Bias Education Response Team.


Qualifications
Education and Experience:  A Master's degree in higher education or related field is required. Doctoral degree or J.D. is preferred. A minimum of five years of experience working with University conduct systems and understanding knowledge of pertinent federal and state legislation regarding conduct in higher education is required.Three years of supervisory/management experience is required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate must possess strong critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to investigate, observe, and resolve multiple complex issues and situations in a timely manner.  Candidate must have high-level interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments. Candidate must possess the ability to handle crises and potentially volatile situations and maintain objectivity. Candidate must be able to handle sensitive information with complete confidentiality and professionalism.Candidate must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills.Candidate must have well developed organizational skills that include effective planning, time management, and the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects.Candidate must be accurate and detail oriented, including financial responsibility, recommended use of budgetary funds and monitoring of expenditures against budget.This position will require some evening and weekend work, including after-hours crisis management.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.  Experience with an electronic record keeping system is also required.  Familiarity with Maxient is preferred.Physical and Environmental Demands:
    Sit for long periods of timeCarry/lift 25 lbs.
