Responsibilities

This position is funded by non-university funds. The continuation of this position is contingent upon the availability of funding.

The Director of Student Support Services (SSS) administers and manages all programs, activities and staff of the Student Support Services Program. This includes the compilation of an array of reports to the Dean of University College, Financial Aid and Student Accounts. Most importantly, the Director submits the Annual Performance Report (APR) to the United States Department of Education. The Director maintains effective fiscal management, monitors finances, and collects data for official reports submitted to the United States Department of Education and Johnson C. Smith University. The Director establishes procedures to select program participants, verify student eligibility, and maintain compliance with federal requirements and ensures that the institution provides financial aid resources for Program participants by offering financial assistance, to the extent possible, to reduce student dependency on loans. The Director also contributes feedback regarding the development of administrative and academic policies of the University that increase the chances of students completing a degree, assists students with securing admission to graduate and professional programs and facilitates college success workshops regularly. The Director maintains an efficient management and computerized record keeping system to collect analyze and retrieve Program data, conducts weekly meetings with their staff, and serves on several University committees and assist the University College in a variety of supportive roles. The Director leads conferences with participants, faculty, staff and parents as needed. The Director is responsible for and executes a plan for program and staff evaluation. Moreover, the Director will design, market, recruit, implement, manage, and evaluate a new summer session bridge component which will run concurrently with the summer session. Scheduled sessions in the evening and some weekends will deliver activities focusing on leadership, resiliency, academic motivation and general college success strategies. The component will also include a mandatory study hall. Each program employee will assist in the programming, facilitating and monitoring of the summer bridge component. The Director participates in division-wide planning, programming, committee work and other related activities, performs other related duties as required to meet organizational needs and maintains membership in TRIO associations including COE, NCCEOP and SAEOPP.

Qualifications

A master's degree in education, counseling and guidance, psychology, educational administration or student personal services, or related field. Must have knowledge or experience with financial and academic development issues and understanding of the variables that facilitate low income, first generation, and disabled college students to graduate. One or more years of experience in supervising and managing trainees. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
