SUMMARY

Plans, coordinates, and directs flight crew training and staff development programs for the flight crew organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following, but not limited to:

  • Confers with Director of Operations and Chief Pilot to determine flight crew training needs.

  • Can demonstrate a high degree of user capability of the Crew Scheduling program to optimize efficient and timely training of crewmembers. Also proficient in the use of general office software such as Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and operating software.

  • Develop and maintain standardization to ensure ground/flight training instructors and Check Airman are teaching the same policies and procedures.

  • Develop and maintain an active LOSA program to ensure compliance with policy and procedures in line operations.

  • Ensure ETOPS is updated and continuous training program is robust and updated as needed to ensure FAA requirements are met.

  • Compiles data and analyzes past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify funds requests.

  • Formulates training policies, programs, and schedules based on knowledge of identified flight crew training needs, Company production processes, business systems, or changes in FAA procedures, or aircraft.

  • Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role play, and computer-based training.

  • Organizes and develops training manuals, reference library, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.

  • Trains assigned instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for crew training such as new employees’ orientation, on-the-job training, recurrent training, remedial training, health and safety practices, management development, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, and technology.

  • Maintains records and prepares statistical reports to evaluate performance and monitor the progress of trainees.

  • Coordinates established training courses with technical and professional courses offered by other sources.

  • Screens, tests, counsels and recommends crewmembers for participation in internal or external educational and training programs.

  • Stays abreast of new developments, methods, and techniques in the training field.

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include the Manager of Training, Ground Instructors, Flight Training Instructors, Check Airman, and LOSA personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws.


PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/MEASUREMENTS;
  • Constantly formulates or reformulates training policies, programs, and schedules based on knowledge of identified flight crew training needs, Company production processes, business systems, or changes in FAA procedures, or aircraft.

  • Continually selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role play, and computer-based training.

  • Effectively organizes and develops training manuals, reference library, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids and other educational materials.

  • Precisely trains assigned instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for crew training such as new employees’ orientation, on-the-job training, recurrent training, health and safety practices, management development, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, and technology.

  • Accurately maintains records and prepares statistical reports to evaluate performance and monitor the progress of trainees.

  • Ensures that performance evaluations on all personnel are completed and returned to Human Resources in a timely manner.

  • Ensures that all Company policies and procedures (including Governmental and safety), and departmental Standard Operating Procedures are enforced and adhered to by all personnel.

  • Ensures that all data collection is accurate and submitted on a timely basis. Also ensures that all reports are accurate and submitted on a timely basis.

  • Ensures proper training of all personnel according to the program of each position in the department.

  • Maintains proper communication channels with personnel within the department by consistently holding meetings and participating in other meetings as required by superiors.

  • Is well prepared for all meetings by documenting agendas, minutes, and follows up to ensure results.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or CERTIFICATION:



Must have a Commercial Pilots Certificate, an Instrument Rating, a Multi-Engine Rating, and a Flight Engineer Turbo Jet Written Pass/or an Airframe and Power Plant License.

F/E Turbojet Written- Second Class Medical Certificate.



REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:



Position if occupied by a line pilot will be a Captain. If the individual that is selected for the Director of Training is a First Officer, he will be upgraded to Captain position with required training.

SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:
  • Must meet at least the minimums required by the Federal Aviation Regulations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

TRAVEL

This position requires constant travel to domestic and international locations, up to 50% of the time.
