JOB SUMMARY:

Directs the overall plant operations including operation management, supply chain, engineering, human resources, quality, finance, safety, continuous improvement/LEAN. Ensures the achievement of production objectives driving a culture of Safety and Quality while enabling the lowest cost consistent with quality standards and delivery requirements. Implements initiatives in alignment with strategic plan and provide a clear sense of direction and focus.

As a member of the Managing Director's team, helps develop and implement longer range, strategic plans for the operations team. Develops and maintains a facility "long range" plan to include strategies, goals, action plans and measurements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety

  • Responsible to nurture and develop a pro-active safety culture. Active management of the safety and work rules and active oversight of maintaining all safety related programs and processes.
  • Enables and ensures safety is built into the management operating systems in the site - The Toro Business System (TBS) LMS ( Lean Management System)
  • Enable and directs the development and measurement of energy conservation programs, safety programs, fire protection, security and hygiene programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Quality
  • Oversees and drives accountability for the plant quality plans to ensure quality consistent with Toro standards.
  • Enables and ensures quality is built into the management operating systems in the site - TBS LMS and is connected to the Quality Management System (QMS) development and deployment.
  • Drives direct connectivity of Customer quality information in to the development and deployment of corrective actions in the manufacturing environment
Management Systems
  • Responsible for the implementation and adherence to the Lean Management Systems - TBS ( Toro Business System). Drives the team on continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives. Supports systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Responsible performance management including Strategy Deployment - X-Matrix, Goals and Objectives, salary planning, development plans and talent review.
  • Maintains good and consistent communications with all employees through regular town hall communication sessions. Drive consistent communication of facility, division and company plans and objectives as well as performance.
  • Maintains a strong and effective community relations program.
Customer Delivery
  • Guides decisions regarding work processes, operational plans, schedules to enable on time delivery to all customer needs.
  • Develops action plans around capacity expansions and drives adherence to all materials management processes around inventory management and schedule adherence enabling long term success of site output.
  • Responsible for the implementation and understanding of the IBP (Integrated Business Planning-SIOP) for the site in conjunction with direct linkage to the division sales and operating plans.
Cost
  • Accountable for the plant budget and cost structure, co-development and recommendation of the plant capital and operating budgets.
  • Responsible for the overall headcount and staffing levels to ensure achievement of production goals within budget guidelines.
  • Directs, approves and administers operating budgets, capital plans, manufacturing processes, manpower plans, cost improvement plans and labor standards to ensure lowest cost consistent with quality standards within operating budgets.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work closely and productively with subordinates, peers and higher levels of management.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree or Masters in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business Administration.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years' experience in various functional areas of manufacturing.
  • Experience as a plant manager in both union and non-union environments is desirable.
  • Good understanding of materials requirements planning and general systems is a must.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
  • Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
  • Strong Lean manufacturing leadership background
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
  • Strong team building, followership, decision-making and people management skills
