The Director of VR Hardware Product will be responsible for managing and guiding multiple VR engineering programs, managing a large team of engineers, spanning electrical and mechanical engineering, systems engineering and platform development working closely with the many cross-functional teams supporting it to bring to market. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in leading multi-functional, highly complex, engineering teams developing advanced technology electronics products - with proven success in bringing these products to market. They should have direct experience with prototyping new technologies in multiple areas, working to develop new processes to integrate them into products. They must have strong interpersonal and communication skills along with a comprehensive understanding of cross-functional interconnectedness and technical deliverables to enable the realization of complex VR products. Candidates must have keen focus on driving business results, ability to work in ambiguous/less defined environments, and strong willingness to collaborate and optimize overall business objectives.

Director, VR Hardware Product Reality Labs Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple hardware teams in bringing complex products from concept to mass production through all phases of engineering design, development, and validation.
  • Develop product and technology strategies and development partnerships to define intermediate and long-term product goals with key internal partners in cross- functional teams, collaborating closely with architecture, ID, cross-functional technology teams, software, suppliers, supply chain and manufacturing operations teams to enable fast product readiness ensuring product cost, design for manufacturing, quality and go-to-market metrics are met.
  • Develop strategic relationships with product peers in engineering, research, business, design, and user research teams to define product requirements and architecture.
  • Organizational experience partnering with global leaders, HR and recruiting to develop and execute on a strategy to attract, retain and develop top talent and role model leadership best practices.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Track record and demonstrated leadership in developing nascent consumer hardware and software technologies into successful mass-market consumer products. Scaling products to tens of millions of units per year.
  • Experience thinking strategically and executing methodically in an entrepreneurial environment, managing all aspects of a critical program.
  • Demonstrated experience formulating the strategies for unique technological innovation and integration, managing risk and prioritizing resource allocation effectively.
  • 10+ years people management experience including managing leaders and managing remotely across regions and disciplines.
  • Collaboration and relationship-building experience, working with all levels of management and individual contributors internally and externally.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with sensors, displays, optical systems.
  • High-density electronic circuits, thermal management systems, high-reliability hardware experience.
