In this role, you will join the Optics and Display Research team responsible for the research and development of novel display and optical materials, components, and systems for AR and VR applications. You will lead the effort of exploring new concepts in imaging display technologies for potential use in AR and VR optic systems. You will be responsible for working with other teams to provide proof of concept viability and demonstrations to product teams for future commercialization.

Display Module Research Lead Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts in exploring optical and electrical architecture that enables the best display performance through total system optimization and optimization of each key component, including visual structure design, display module integration, microdisplay packaging, new material, and thin-film process.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, academia, and external commercial research labs to create and develop novel display concepts and technologies for AR and VR imaging displays.
  • Lead the incubation of technical evaluation testing and prototypes with academic and commercial research laboratories to demonstrate and de-risk commercial viability.
  • Manage internal collaborations and coordinate with other core technical teams on incubating technologies that are fundamental to new and innovative concepts.
  • Coordinate with product hardware teams on display enhancement attributes
  • lead the team to demonstrate both physics-based and systems viability of the concepts through analysis and experimentation.
  • Support partners to enable demonstrations of total AR and VR optical system prototypes without fully commercialized technologies.
  • Effectively communicate architecture and design
  • shepherd technologies to external suppliers and internal product roadmaps.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Optoelectronics, Physics or Display Technologies.
  • 7+ years of work experience in technology innovation, designing and testing display hardware in the consumer electronics field.
  • Knowledge of display (OLED, LCD, LCOS, MicroLED, DLP, etc.) technology, and technical skills in display electronics, optics, physics, systems engineering, image/color processing, graphics.
  • Experience executing and prioritizing analysis to weed out concepts quickly and focus on paths with high potential and successful implementation.
  • Experience incubating ideas in display research and seeing them through to volume commercialization.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and flexible environment, delivering solutions that far outperform the state-of-the-art.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong presentation and communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills in cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring others in the team.
  • 10+ years of technology in display technologies, electronics, or optics
  • Established relationships with micro-display suppliers, research institutes, and material vendors.
