Job Summary:

The Engineering Designer works as part of a team to design and prepare new products for production.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with engineering product development team throughout the development process.
  • Design of components or systems with input from members of the development team
  • Prepare CAD models and drawings for production. May include drawing creation, updates, checking, releasing, and/or managing of revisions.
  • Analyze and resolve (with assistance of Engineers when necessary) manufacturing & technical issues for components and products.
  • Assist with creation and updating of bills of material
  • Assist with engineering publications and communication. May include writing of instruction sheets and manuals, measuring and recording information for specification sheets, and communicating relevant information to other VPI personnel and departments
  • Interface with other departments to accomplish project & product goals.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with 2D drafting, drafting standards, and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability for drawing creation and revisions
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems (preferably Solid Edge)
  • Successfully demonstrated attention to detail
  • A team player that can work in a safe, productive, and professional manner
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and analyze problems (analytical problem solving) effectively
  • Self-motivated with excellent project and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills - professional, courteous, friendly and helpful
  • Successfully demonstrated strong verbal communication
  • Successfully demonstrated strong written communication
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills (Microsoft Office, Internet)
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of product development experience
  • Working knowledge of metal working and welding
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, power, and 12volt electrical systems.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Experience with weld drawings and American Welding Society symbols
