College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

This position will conduct a clinical interview of individuals presenting for admission, interviews with family or significant others and obtain information from previous treatment providers to help determine appropriate level of care. They will present case presentations to the physician on social work recommendations and assist in providing crisis intervention, family education and counseling as needed. Coordinates discharge plans and facilities appropriate referrals for continued treatment.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Screening, developing, monitoring, and coordinating client placement plans while ensuring that services and placements plans meet the client's needs and expectations.
  • Serve as a key advisor to a program director and develop strategies and objectives to accomplish the goals of the client as well as the facility.
  • Member of a care team in order to coordinate and integrate with the community support programs.
  • Serve as a liaison for clinical departments or between hospital and community support programs.
  • Ensure objectives and priorities for patients are in line with the department and in support of overall hospital goals.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) w/licensure eligibility and a minimum of two years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Seven years' experience in a mental health hospital setting or social service delivery system.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the mental health delivery system in Georgia and understanding of DSM V. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Understanding of HIPAA regulatory policies and procedures such as those outlined by the Joint Commission and HIPAA.



SKILLS

Skilled in a variety of therapeutic models and interventions directly related to area of assignment. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: 16

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
