Under limited supervision of the Laboratory Manager in Bioengineering, the Educational Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations and quality control within a highly-technical educational laboratory with a variety of complex equipment.
Job Description
Using specialized knowledge, the Educational Laboratory Coordinator will work independently, or in collaboration with the Lab Manager and course instructors, to develop and design new experiments and manuals, as well as custom equipment related to molecular biology, biomaterials, chemistry, and microfluidics. The Coordinator will analyze experimental data, using statistical tools; mentor students, both during lab classes and for student projects, providing technical expertise in the use of equipment, with experiments and with the theory related to molecular biology, chemistry, and statistics; provide for the general upkeep of the lab facilities and lab classes; and manage student employees and Teaching Assistants who will assist with laboratory duties.
Qualifications:
BS in Chemical or Biomedical Engineering or related sciences, and 1 to 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; strong work ethic with proficiency in molecular biology and chemistry techniques, and some experience and/or interest in the following as they apply to Bioengineering: programming, circuit design and mechanics. Must be self-motivated, willing to learn and work independently, and attentive to details. Must be able to work with live insects. Good communication and organizational skills and interest in interacting with undergraduate and graduate students and faculty..
