Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Boise State University TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program provides services to 1,550 low-income youth who are the first in their families to attend college. The Educational Specialist under the supervision of the Project Director provides direct services to approximately 250 students. The goals of the program are for the students to graduate from high school, enroll in a postsecondary program, apply for scholarships and financial aid, and graduate from postsecondary education.

You will have the opportunity to: Work at 3-4 Treasure Valley high schools to recruit and provide college and career advising services to approximately 250, 8th -12th grade educationally and economically disadvantaged students in southwest Idaho.

This is a full-time, 10 month position with comprehensive benefits.

Level Scope:
Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Essential Functions:

• Recruit, track and document provided services and progress of 250 students each year.
• Plan, organize and implement financial aid, college admission and scholarship application workshops.
• Plan, organize and chaperone college tours and financial literacy workshops.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences as assigned by the project director.

• Valid driver's license, you must be willing to drive 12 passenger vans, ride on buses with the students.
• This position requires frequent local/overnight travel * The Educational Specialist in this position will be responsible for their own local transportation (and appropriate licensure and insurance as needed).
*COVID 19 has changed program delivery options so the successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience with virtual conferencing - Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Experience with college admissions, the financial aid process, assisting with scholarship applications.
• Experience/familiarity with college admissions test prep - ACT/SAT
• Demonstrated first generation youth program work and design

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent plus 0-2 years experience in similar type of work.
• Demonstrated experience working with low-income, first-generation youth

Preferred Qualifications:
• TRIO Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound programs (or similar) experience.
• Candidate has participated in a TRIO Program
• Ability to read, write and speak Spanish
