Summary Statement

The City of Boise is currently accepting applications for a Facilities Services and Operations Electrician. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize and grow your skills. This recruitment
provides journey level electrical expertise for repair, maintenance and installation of components and systems throughout city facilities and fire stations and assists others with maintenance related work where electrical expertise is required. Essential Functions

Performs maintenance, installation and repairs to electrical systems, audio visual equipment, sound reinforcement systems, access control systems, electrical motors and devices, gate operators and light fixtures throughout city facilities. Troubleshoots and fixes electrical circuits. Utilizes and programs Programmable Logic Computers (PLC) to ensure various systems are performing correctly. Utilizes maintenance management system to receive work orders, track time and record work activities. (50%)

Assists with design and upgrades of electrical systems and related components at city facilities and fire stations to include alarm systems. Monitors exhaust systems and emergency generators and ensures all are in working order. (25%)

Assists other city workers with maintenance related duties and provides electrical expertise upon request. Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams and electrical equipment operation manuals. Coordinates and oversees outside electrical contractors and inspects completed work. (15%)

Performs administrative duties, processes work orders, researches bids, plans electrical maintenance duties and other related tasks. Provides reports on complex work performed on fire alarm system inspections and new design suggestions. Researches and recommends energy conservation measures and/or projects. (10%)

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Journeyman-level electrician license
  • Experience performing general electrical installations, maintenance and repairs in a commercial or public facility
  • High school diploma or GED
Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and design; general electrical components such as wires and electrical outlets; electrical circuits
  • PLC programming and maintenance
  • General customer service techniques
Ability
  • Ability to utilize and safely operate basic trade tools and equipment; understand and apply safety rules and regulations
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of a variety of electrical components and systems
  • Write basic logic programs for PLC utilization; troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues
  • Read blueprints and electrical wiring diagrams
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Master-level electrician license.

Licensing And Other Requirements
  • State of Idaho Journeyman Electrical license.
  • Valid driver's license.

Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
  • Driving Record Check
  • Criminal Justice Information System background check (CJIS)
  • Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

This position is required to handle hazardous materials that if mishandled, place the general public at risk of serious injury.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is always very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals.

This position works: evenings, weekends, and a rotating on-call schedule.
