  • The Electrician/PLC/Facility Technician performs duties under the general direction of the Maintenance and Facilities Manager/Lead Electro-Mechanic. Works independently to perform maintenance, repair, and/or modification of the plants computer driven controls systems and the plants mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Perform variety of skilled duties in one or more of the building trades, such as painting, carpentry, welding, electrical, cement masonry, dry wall or other recognized crafts for the purpose of maintaining, repairing or remodeling company owned and operated buildings and facilities, to include H.V.A.C. and other mechanical systems.
  • Be on the property during weather or any other type of emergencies (i.e. snow storm, fire, hurricane)
  • Maintain and operate fire suppression systems (pumps, alarms, sprinklers, etc).
  • Work with fire department and insurance company to conduct yearly inspections.
  • Interact with senior management to address any building or maintenance concerns.
  • Oversee contractors during projects.
  • Day to day troubleshooting, repair and installation of low and high voltage (single/three phase) industrial electromechanical & control systems for production & facility equipment.
  • Create parts list and determine best routes for conduit runs and wiring in accordance with NEC code and PNB standards. This includes both building electrical and machine electrical panels.
  • Support plant installations to size conductors and conduit for load, form all sizes/types of conduit, and thread ends of field cut conduit and pull field wires (with assistance if necessary) in accordance with NEC code and PNB standards.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for existing and new equipment, control and building power system installations.
  • Provide assistance to mechanical installations as directed.
  • Work independently in troubleshooting and repair problems with Programmable Logic Controllers and related components when required.
  • Be able to obtain back-up PLC programs from a server to reload and reboot PLC programs to restore faulted equipment.
  • Assist with system startups and operational checkouts on systems including configuration, wiring, calibration, grounding and power testing.
  • Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of equipment or systems repairs or replaces defective components.
  • Experienced in the use of electrical diagnostic equipment such as multi-meters, amp clamps and meggers to test electrical circuits and components to locate shorts, faulty connections, defective parts and replaces or repairs to suite.
  • Interface with equipment operators and maintenance staff to ascertain problems with equipment.
  • Disassembles replaces or repairs mechanical and electrical components.
  • Must read and interpret electrical and electronic drawings, schematics, blueprints, engineering drawings and sketches to determine problem and make appropriate repairs.
  • Examine and test components and support systems to ensure that they are in compliance with all standards and regulations.
  • Must be competent to make electrical/mechanical diagnostic evaluation and prescribe corrective action.
  • Test and calibrate electrical/electronic systems and components to ensure that they are operating properly or locate defects.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access and remove/replace defective parts.
  • Uses computerized equipment and software to perform testing functions and produce graphs for records and tracking.
  • Assembles and installs electrical and electro-mechanical components and systems.
  • Sets up and operates electronic instrumentation and related electro mechanical or electro pneumatic/hydraulic apparatus used for operation of mechanical or electrical equipment or drives.
  • Utilize technical materials such as equipment manuals, MSDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and maintain systems.
  • Writes procedures, work instructions and work order and maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests in the Imaint. System
  • Assist the production mechanics with electrical, programming and overall smooth line operating efficiency.
  • Fill in the production mechanic position for emergency and vacation periods.
  • General plant repairs but not limited to Air Compressors, Water, Wastewater, Syrup Room, Boilers, Dock Doors, Docks, etc.
  • Make all minor welding repairs.
  • Monitor Refrigeration and Steam boilers and attend to system issues.
  • Repair, maintain, rebuild, lubricate, operate & troubleshoot all mechanical equipment and electrical equipment.
  • Maintain and operate mechanical systems, such as: plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam system, automatic temperature control, electrical; other similar equipment as needed.
  • Construct and repair structural woodwork and equipment; work from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions.
  • Build, repair, and install equipment as required.
  • Install glass in windows, doors, and partitions; replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and sheet plastic wall coverings.
  • Prepare and paint walls and woodwork or performs other types of refinish; install or repair carpet
  • Execute plant preventive maintenance program
  • Perform weekly safety checks throughout the facility to ensure a safe and clean environment for the patrons of the facility and to eliminate all hazards.
  • Recommend purchases, cost savings measures, and assist with the development of the budget.
  • Enter purchase orders and receive invoices as they come in.
  • Report maintenance problems to maintenance manager and supervisors via verbal communications, e-mail or I-Maintenance work orders.
  • Pickup parts or other items from local vendors as directed by management.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as mechanic in manufacturing, preferably in the food, beverage or consumer good packaging industry.
  • Minimum high school diploma and mechanical trade schooling.
  • Be able to read, interpret, and modify electrical prints and schematics and document all changes.
  • General understanding and hands on experience with explosion proof and intrinsically safe work environments. Knowledge of applicable NEC and NFPA codes.
  • Complete understanding of Plant electrical systems, including voltage and AC voltage from 24V to 480V.
  • Complete understanding of relay and discrete device control systems.
  • Proficiency in electrical installations with conduit and wiring practices.
  • Experience using sensing and control devices.
  • Experience using both DC and AC motors, VFD Drives and Servo Controlled Systems (Allen Bradley preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in writing, programming, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen-Bradley preferred).
  • Experience with plant floor automation and office Ethernet, network wiring and Fiber optic Networks.
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical service and maintenance.
  • Experience with AutoCAD. Candidate must be willing to take courses to keep up with advancing technologies.

  • Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation to ensure equipment and systems conform to engineering design, and Federal and State codes.
  • Overall responsibility for ensuring safety of the work place, by seeing that appropriate practices are established, in place and enforced.
  • Support follow and support the Lock Out / Tag out program.
  • Responsible for ensuring that equipment specific energy control procedures are developed for all equipment that present the potential for the release of hazardous energy.
  • Must fully understand and adhere to the ARC Flash & electrical shock prevention policy.
  • NJ certifications: Black Seal for Low Pressure Boiler and Blue Seal for Ammonia Refrigeration System within 18 months from date of hire.
  • Ability to work all shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) as stated in the CBA.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required for production equipment or building repairs.
  • Ability to participate in training programs, for equipment and systems, supplied to improve employee knowledge. (Sometime on an overtime basis, or with outside organizations).
  • Ability to share and receive training with company employees when requested.
  • Be able to develop, write and troubleshoot PLC programs.
  • Candidates will be subject to Electrical Aptitude, PLC and controls Aptitude, Mechanical Aptitude and a 6-month introductory period.
