Purpose and Scope
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Engineering Manager provides strategy and direction to the overall engineering activities to maintain current business and successfully achieve new business objectives for the St. Clair Plant as well as to lead the engineering staff in a unified direction to meet customer requirements and business objectives. The plant manufactures high volume, tight tolerance components for the automotive industry and uses unique and proprietary processes to achieve competitive advantage. The equipment and processes in the plant therefore are typically unique to the St. Clair facility and limited expertise is available from internal resources.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage and lead all engineering staff and activities.
  2. Develop and drive plant-level engineering strategy and technical vision for all direct reports and other associates in the plant.
  3. Act as liaison and provide plant support to TimkenSteel's corporate engineering department.
  4. Collaborate with TimkenSteel's commercial, sales, and Manufactured Components corporate team to evaluate new product opportunities.
  5. Lead all process and product launches and maintain proper levels of engineering support for existing processes.
  6. Demonstrate a true 'shop floor presence'. Work closely with line operators and maintenance to understand the current state of the equipment.
  7. Initiate, lead, and maintain technical solution driven continuous improvement projects and opportunities with evaluation of economics to address all business objectives.
  8. Lead and manage facility capital expenditure projects and pipeline of opportunities with the support of corporate Engineering & Finance resources.
  9. Provide leadership, mentoring, evaluation, and development of the engineering department.
  10. Serve as a back-up for St. Clair's Plant Manager when required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Business or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 10 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering processes, maintenance, operations, design and project management.
Master degree in Business or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 8 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering processes, maintenance, operations, design and project management.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Business or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 15 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering processes, maintenance, operations, design and project management.
Master degree in Business or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 10 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering processes, maintenance, operations, design and project management.
