At Koch Finishing Systems, we supply automated finishing systems for a wide variety of manufacturing industries in all industrialized areas of the world for all major coating technologies, including liquid paint, powder, electrocoat, porcelain enamel, anodizing, and plating systems.

We are currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager to lead our Mechanical and Controls Engineering and Design Teams for our Jessup Systems division located in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This position is responsible for effectively managing the engineering of automated finishing equipment projects. They will drive innovation, value engineering, and team member development.

Requisite Skills and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of equipment design engineering and 3+ years' experience proactively teaching/coaching less experienced engineers
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university (Master's Degree preferred)
  • Experience in automated equipment, field experience with installation and startup of finishing or specialized processing equipment.
  • Exceptional Project Management Skills
  • Professional Engineer certification (preferred).
  • Experience presenting to a technical society or conference (preferred).
  • Ability to apply engineering training to solve the variety of problems related to finishing and specialized processing equipment.
  • Ability to initiate change and create a sense of urgency.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Engineering resource planning and productivity of Engineering Team (i.e. Mechanical Designers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers)
  • Implement system modularization standards to reduce field installation time.
  • Provide technical expertise to customer during design reviews, quality inspection visits, installation, and startup assistance.
  • Ensure equipment supplied meets the contract performance objectives, contract requirements, and company standards. Identify areas that require original engineering analysis in lieu of application of standards.
  • Support manufacturing and field activities with technical interpretations, problem solving, and schedule and quality inspections. Oversee manufacturing and field installation work for quality and progress.
  • Manage engineering analysis work and prepares supporting reports, i.e., sizing and analysis of steel designs and conveyor designs.
  • Ensure scope of work and deliverables of the contract are translated to engineering specifications throughout the course of the project.
  • Ensure material and engineering budgets are met.
  • Ensure engineering documents are maintained in good order, i.e., drawings, description of operation, sequence of operation, owner's manual, reports, etc.
  • Provide updates to General Manager regarding engineering status and necessary budget alterations.
  • Perform ongoing risk and design reviews throughout the course of the project to ensure overall performance of the final system. Recognize and take corrective action when technical difficulties arise that can jeopardize the outcome of the project.
  • Develop technical ability of engineers and designers. Analyze training needs of all team members, especially newer ones, and provides all on the job training required.
  • Research standards for improvement opportunities and develops engineering tools that lead to improved engineering performance and cost-efficient designs.
  • Conduct in-house training sessions in area of expertise as needed.
