Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking an experienced senior level Manager of Engineering to join our Fired Heaters team in Hampton, NJ. The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 10 years of relevant structural and/or mechanical engineering experience.

Role Overview

The Manager of Engineering is responsible for managing the engineering and design group of the Fired Heaters group, which performs structural/mechanical design calculations and develops design drawings for Fired Heater projects. In addition, the Manager of Engineering interfaces with internal and external project stakeholders, and may be required to act as the engineering lead on projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, lead, support and supervise the engineering and design group and its workflow
• Review and approve calculations prepared by engineering staff
• Prepare structural and mechanical design calculations and design packages
• Review and approve drawings prepared by design staff and suppliers, including shop drawings
• Review and interpret code requirements and customer specifications
• Manage key stakeholders (management team, clients, suppliers, contractors) in the execution and delivery of contracted activities
• Identify areas of risk, risk mitigation, and improvement opportunities, particularly with respect to safety
• Resolve difficult technical and other issues which are non-recurring and occasionally unique
• Develop and retain motivated and competent people
• Travel to client locations for meetings and jobsite inspections both domestically and internationally (15% - 20% travel)
• Liaison with affiliate worldwide Fired Heater groups on practices and standards
• Participate in industry association activities (API, ASME, etc.)

Skills / Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
• 10+ years of progressive experience in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical engineering is preferred. Fired Heater/Reformer or similar industrial equipment experience is strongly preferred, including design of structures, tubes support castings, and piping
• Management experience is preferred
• PE License is required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
• Understanding of the business aspects of Lump Sum equipment supply is preferred
• Oil and Gas industry experience is preferred
• Knowledge of relevant codes (API, AISC, ASCE, AWS, ASME etc.)
• Proficiency in STAAD or other structural analysis software
• Familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other design software
• Familiarity with 3D modeling software
• Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural team and business environment
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
• Authorisation to lawfully work in the United States without sponsorship from Wood is required
