Are you our next Mine Engineer Superintendent - Carlsbad?

We are currently seeking a Mine Engineering Superintendent at our site in Carlsbad, NM. The successful candidate will manage the Mine Engineering Department which provides technical support for all mining functions including capital planning, appropriation, and monitoring, technical regulatory compliance, resource evaluation (ore reserve), and mine planning. Key tasks performed by the incumbent include safety analysis, legal and regulatory (MSHA, BLM, OCD, and SLO) communications, interaction with oil and gas operations, surveying, mapping, geological exploration and evaluation, ventilation, cost control, rock mechanics, and ore handling equipment design.

What will you do?

  • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all MSHA regulations, company policy and accepted engineering standards.
  • Lead optimization projects in the areas of long/short term mine planning and scheduling. Propose and detail mining options, assess risk and consequences to mining schedule and plans. Supervise/mentor mine engineering workforce.
  • Working closely with the Finance Department, develop and implement cost tracking tools. Take part in the capital projects and setting up the operating budget.
  • Develop standards, procedures, continuous improvement teams.
  • Understand, promote and operate by overall company vision and values, goals, objectives and strategies.

What do you need for this role?
  • Bachelors' degree in Mine Engineering, Mineral Technology or related discipline is required.
  • P. Eng. or currently in the process of pursuing P.Eng. Certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Mine Engineering-related and Production Supervisory roles.
  • Must be proficient in basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office.
  • Must have experience using scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or other similar programs.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Excellent Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact with respective Supervisors/Contractors, Engineers and Planners.
  • Underground supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of mine regulations, OH&S Act and Regulations and Mine Rescue Procedures.
  • Good technical background in ground control and mine ventilation.
  • Able to incorporate risk analysis in all work assigned.
  • Experience in Potash Mining is a plus.
  • Employment is subject to successfully completing Mosaic's pre-employment checks including criminal, drug and alcohol testing.

  • Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others.
  • Able to lift approximately 0-25 lbs. occasionally
  • Able to hear, with or without correction
  • Able to see, with or without correction
  • Able to travel unassisted
  • Able to wear a respirator
  • Physically able to use standard safety equipment which is rated for 300 pounds or less
