The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing and completing bid documents and cost estimates for electrical projects. The Electrical Estimator controls the project costs by review of all construction documents related to the project for bid proposal delivery to the customer. This position reports to the VP of Estimating.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Review all construction documents including bid instructions and overall scope of work.
  • Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure coverage on scope of work.
  • Distribute plans, specifications and agenda to subcontractors/vendors.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as required which may result in travel time on occasion.
  • Prepare estimates by performing a complete takeoff of scope of work and enter into estimating software.
  • Thoroughly review all take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work.
  • Review in detail assigned subcontractor and vendor quotes for full compliance with the plans and specifications.
  • Provide trade specific scope of work to Electrical Sales Lead for incorporation into proposals.
  • Assist in procurement of materials and equipment as required.
  • Understand the National Electric Codeto determine if drawings meet code requirements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide design for incomplete drawings and value engineering alternates.
  • Must be able to input takeoffs into Accubid Estimating program.
  • Obtain accurate quotes and review quotes against specifications for accuracy.
  • Write proposals and provide input on design errors or potential cost savings.
  • Answer questions from GC\u0027s in relation to estimate.
  • Provide turnover packet and attend turnover meeting with Project Manager / Field personnel.
  • Track RFI\u0027s.
  • Provide cost estimates and backup on change orders. Review job costing and maintain project budget.
  • Attend post bid scope review meetings.
  • Performs special projects and completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, related degree and/or equivalent work experience plus three years of work experience supporting similar key position responsibilities in the commercial electrical industry.
  • Electrical trade school, Licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician License,a plus.
  • Knowledge in estimating software (Accubid/Trimble,a plus)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, as well as with customers and vendors.
  • Capability of taking off electrical systems completely.
  • Understand the means and methods of construction for the electrical trade.
  • Proficient Time management skills and organizational skills; ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Function effectively as part of a team and coordinate scope of work between trades (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection \u0026amp; Alarm, etc.)
