The Zurich E&S Excess Casualty team is currently hiring an Excess Casualty Underwriter (Level II or Senior Level III) to join the Eastern Zone Team in New York or Atlanta. The ideal candidate will have established E&S broker relationships within the Washington DC to Boston corridor. As a member of Zurich's underwriting team, you will enjoy the opportunity to apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills. Work arrangements are hybrid with a combination schedule of work-from-home and in office.

As an Excess Casualty Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal accounts with a focus on our Construction and Real Estate exposure. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with our wholesale Preferred Distribution Partners on a national basis.

This role will be filled at either the Mid Senior Underwriter or Senior Underwriter. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant's experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

The Excess Casualty Underwriter is responsible for:

  • Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end to end solution for their insurance needs.
  • Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing
  • Using risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale
  • Market facing and production within the growing Zurich E&S Excess Casualty division
  • Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
  • Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments

Excess Casualty Underwriter (Mid Senior - Level II) Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Senior Excess Casualty Underwriter (Senior - Level III) Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Technical knowledge of Excess Casualty Underwriting specific to Construction and Real Estate
  • Established broker relationships (E&S brokers)
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Applicable Only to Jobs to be Performed in New York City:

The salary range for Underwriter Level II is $98,800-$123,500. The salary range for this Underwriter Level III is $126,100-157,600. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
