Description
Location: Central Nebraska Veterans' Home; 4510 E. 56th S., Kearney, NE 68847

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm with a rotating on call that occurs every 8 weeks occasional weekends
Examples of Work
Repair/Replace ceiling/floor/wall materials, electrical outlets/switches, plumbing fixtures/valves. Monitor adjust, repair and/or replace HVAC equipment Construct and repair hospital/office furniture. Maintain and install lock sets. Interpret floor plans, layouts and mechanical blueprints. Perform skilled plumbing work. Perform skilled work on heating, cooling, and building control systems. Operate boiler and mix chemicals for boiler and operate chiller and maintain chiller in proper working order. Perform outside duties including snow removal and Lawn Care. Occasional travel required.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance trade and one year of experience OR three years experience in skilled maintenance, construction or mechanical trades and experience leading/directing others in such work; experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Building structures and surface maintenance (includes working from scaffolding and/or ladders), interior surface preparation and refinishing, finish carpentry, electrical and plumbing installation and repairs.

OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess working knowledge of the following: finish carpenter skills, electrical wiring procedures, plumbing procedures, HVAC operations and pneumatic control systems. Must be able to work in conditions conducive to maintenance environment and limited spaces. Must have experience and ability to use all tools related to maintenance trades. Must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to respond to emergency calls after normal hours within 30 minutes.
