Field Support Technician - Wind

Position Overview

The Field Support Technician has a primary responsibility of fielding inbound calls/inquiries and supporting the caller in returning their equipment to a state of safe and reliable operation. Actively participating in the field to troubleshoot complex issues as individual(s) must exert professionalism, patience, and a safety-first attitude. They will partner with various members within Operations, such as Engineering, Training, Field Services, Renewable Operations, and Operations Support to help guide their efforts in supporting our operating fleet. Must be a team player willing to use their analytical, conceptual, and creative thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to Invenergy's Renewable Technicians as it pertains to both troubleshooting and maintenance activities in wind turbines
  • Field phone calls and provide diagnostic support to in-field technicians troubleshooting down or derated equipment
  • Diagnose problems and determine proper solutions to return equipment to service.
  • Work in the field to train less experienced technicians and to troubleshoot down equipment as needed

  • Support pilot projects to evaluate new equipment, tools, and/or processes
  • Work with the EHS team to develop safe operating practices and standards
  • Support the start-up of operations at new facilities
  • Support the end-of-warranty inspection process at facilities
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in Wind Turbine operations

  • Escalate calls needing additional support to EHS, Field Services, or Engineering
  • Remain engaged with Invenergy's safety culture
  • Efficiently manage personal travel arrangements
  • Travel 25% of the time

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Accomplished and proven troubleshooter with a minimum of two years troubleshooting and maintenance experience with wind turbines
  • Extremely high expectations of self and team members as it pertains to safety
  • Strong interest and understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in renewable energy technologies

  • Ability to quickly become a Subject Matter Expert on multiple technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of substations and underground systems
  • Proficiency with operating programs EAM, Toolbox ST, SCADA, GE Webpages, and Visu-Pro software

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders without assistance and work at heights greater than 80 meters (250 feet)
  • Weight must not exceed 120 kg (265 lbs.) excluding equipment/gear worn when performing job related tasks

  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability to move and manipulate up to 45 kg (100 pounds)
