Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of functional work units, including the development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes and the supervision of professional and support staff.

Position Information:

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is responsible for managing the awarding, distribution, reporting and reconciling of over $280,000,000 in student financial aid for the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus. Combined enrollment at both locations is approximately 20,000 students. The Manager of Systems and Operations will report to and be supervised by the Director of Financial Aid Services, with a strategic reporting line to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Financial Aid and Scholarships.  The Manager is the leader of the systems supporting the institution's student financial aid and scholarship programs. The manger will supervise a small staff, responsible for ensuring that the office's technology systems are maximized to support excellent student services/support and the compliant administration of financial aid and scholarships. The Manager of Systems and Operations is expected to contribute to the productivity of the office by recommending and supporting technology-supported continuous process improvements, developing reporting/analytical capabilities and implementing system enhancements to facilitate the compliant management of financial aid rules and regulations and the strategic leveraging and distribution of federal title IV regulated, state-provisioned, and institutional-provided funds.

The Manager of Systems and Operations is a leader in the area of financial aid and scholarship technology, specifically financial-aid related student information systems functionality, maintenance, testing and development, process automation and compliance. Additionally, the Manager of Systems and Operations will have day-to-day responsibilities ensuring that all financial aid and scholarship systems, supporting technology and ancillary software with connections to the financial aid and scholarship systems are strategically optimized, operational, effective, and up to date. This requires the Manager of Systems and Operations to cultivate relationships with multiple University partners including students, staff and leaders within the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, Strategic Enrollment & Student Success units, Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness, Colleges and Schools, and other information systems professionals at CU Denver and CU Anschutz Medical Campus and at the CU system. This position will provide support for the strategic growth and advancement of university enrollment, with a particular focus on financial aid and scholarship-related recruitment, retention, persistence, and graduation/completion initiatives. The Manager of Systems and Operations will develop and support technology solutions to ensure the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office can meet the demands of students.

This position is open to Remote Hybrid work. The schedule expectation would be two days remote, and three days in person. 

Examples of Work:

    Supervise full-time professional staff members; Provide timely and accurate data to inform strong decision-making, particularly in relation to achieving institutional and school/college/department/program retention, persistence, and graduation/completion goals; Develop a production calendar that will ensure proactive and timely setup, review, disbursement, and reporting of financial aid and scholarships; Recommend/implement strategies and enhancements to optimize processing time and facilitate quality assurance; Ensure strong financial aid administration and scholarship fund awarding compliance; Facilitate the reduction and occurrence of errors in processing, awarding, and disbursement of financial and scholarship funds; Automate manual processes to better enable enhanced audit capability in terms of quality assurance and operational efficacy; Maintaining the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office systems' functionality, with strong attention to ensuring up-to-date maintenance and functioning at maximum efficiency

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range/salary for this position has been established at $74,607 - $94,900 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Qualifications 
Minimum Qualifications: 
    A bachelor's degree in a related field.
      Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. 
    The position requires diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for process improvement related to student services to include at least 1 year of experience as a supervisor in a systems/technology capacity. 2-5 years of related experience with student information systems, higher education, and/or financial aid and scholarship technology.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with student information systems, higher education-related software, and systems security.
  • Master's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, analytics, or another STEM-related field.
  • Four years of professional experience working with technology to improve/enhance processes and end-user experiences.
  • Familiarity with Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) and other platforms relating to Federal student aid programs.
  • Familiarity with the Education Loan Management (ELM) portal to facilitate the setup, updating, and management of private loan processing.

Additional Competencies (additional):
    Demonstrated understanding of financial aid regulations. Demonstrated ability to document audience, logic, data source, output format, and report requirements for development, testing, and production environments. Demonstrated ability to communicate policies, procedures, and information with various staff and students, various departments and agencies, and training personnel as relevant. Working knowledge of emerging technology, student success initiatives, and project management principles.
