Position Summary

This position is a non-exempt (hourly) position that provides IT and technology solutions and support for all the life safety and security systems for the Campus Safety Department. ESS&T supports a large Avigilon enterprise camera surveillance system, fire alarm, intrusion and panic alarm systems, a large enterprise level Software House C-Cure 9000 access control system, along with several other key systems. This position reports directly to the Manager of Electronic Security Systems and Technology. Due to the critical nature of this position and its support of a 24x7 unit, after-hour support on occasion may be required. It is a non-uniformed position that is responsible for the installation, maintenance/repair and service for the fire alarms and intrusion alarms owned and operated by the University of Denver. The position assists in the design and installation of card access and CCTV systems, as well as the service and maintenance of these systems.

The position requires that the applicant possess verifiable technical experience with installing and programming intrusion alarms, card access and CCTV systems. The position requires the applicant to maintain a working relationship with other service Departments (i.e. IT, Telephone Services, Facility Management, etc.) to assist in the completion of special projects. The position requires the applicant to work on-call for emergencies on a 24/7 basis on a rotating schedule with a response to the campus on emergency call-outs within 2 hours after notification. The position requires the applicant maintain a clean driving record in accordance with the University of Denver driving policies. This position requires direct input of operational data into the C-Cure card access system. This position requires programming of the Avigilon camera surveillance system.

Essential Functions

  • Manage all card credentials (including clearances) and door schedules in the C-Cure card access system. This is a shared responsibly with the ESS&T Systems Support Specialist
  • Program new surveillance cameras and manage existing cameras in the Avigilon camera surveillance system. This is a shared responsibly with the ESS&T Systems Support Specialist.
  • Manage the selection and training of all new C-Cure Access Coordinators, as well as complete the management of the C-Cure Access Coordinator program, including developing training materials and curriculum, scheduling, and conducting the training sessions. This is a shared responsibly with the ESS&T Systems Support Specialist
  • Facilitate the maintenance, programming and repair of all electronic security systems as required.
  • Monitors electronic system daily for problems and issues.
  • Assists in the coordination of installation and/or integration of all new electronic security systems.
  • Meets and consults with various Department heads, project managers, and contractors in the design of new electronic intrusion alarm systems. Assists in writing proposals for same as required.
  • Provide daily monitoring of security alarm systems for maintenance or operational problems. Initiates and completes corrective action as required and maintains records of same.

  • Develop and facilitate training for Campus Safety personnel to trouble-shoot fire alarm problems and the operation of new fire alarm systems.
  • Assist with the design and installation of new CCTV and card access systems.
  • May serve as project manager to oversee contractor's installation of new equipment and upgrades.
  • Adheres to all Department and University policies, procedures, directives, rules and regulations.
  • Participates in the Department's recruitment and accreditation efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience and or educational equivalent with CCTV, card access and intrusion/fire alarm system installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with computer networks, switches, IT infrastructure and enterprise level access control and camera surveillance systems management.
  • Successfully pass a fire Department test with a minimum score of 75%.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with basic operation and maintenance of low voltage electronics equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic networking, IT protocols, network cabling and switches.
  • Professional certification related to the installation and service of low voltage security electronics.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and be insurable under University guidelines; or, obtain a valid Colorado's driver's license within the required time frame.
  • Must pass a complete background check to include criminal, motor vehicle report and verification of employment and education.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a University approved facility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent credit hours from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience or educational equivalent with CCTV, card access and intrusion/fire alarm system installation and maintenance.
  • Access license, ELCT Signal License, and successfully pass a fire Department test with a minimum score of 75%.
  • NICET Level I and II.
  • Previous experience as an installer and/or service technician of low voltage electronic systems (i.e. intrusion alarm systems, card access, fire alarm systems, and CCTV systems).
  • Professional certification related to the installation and service of low voltage security electronics.
  • Previous knowledge gained as an installer and/or service technician of low voltage electronics (i.e. intrusion alarm systems, card access, fire alarm systems and CCTV systems).
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Physical Activities
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit and or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • May also be require to routinely lift 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
  • This position generally works equal amounts of time indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • May be expected to work on a ladder up to 20 feet above the ground for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, night vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment
  • Works in a standard to small office environment.
  • 50% at work station, 50% in the field working with other Departments on development of specific unit plans.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur frequently; and stress level is moderate. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
  • There are occasions where the employee will be exposed to all type of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Additionally, this position may occasionally be called to work different hours or locations; position also serves as an "on-call" technician on a rotating basis.

Hourly Range
The hourly range for the position is $26.34 - $28.74.
