What you will do:
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, MercyOne and Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.
  • Exhibits the cultural beliefs to all colleagues, patients, guests, and vendors as we strive to provide a safe and positive culture.
  • Monitors compliance to all guidelines and regulations for food handling and storage to assure proper food safety of all products.
  • Completes and properly files required reports in a professional and complete manner. Assures appropriate food storage temperatures throughout department.
  • Documents accident and safety incidents of staff and visitors.
  • Plans, monitors and conducts employee job related training. Assist with employee development and evaluation process.
  • Provides direction to assigned staff regarding quality product and service standards in absence of FANS Management. Assist with daily oversight of staff in assigned work units.
  • Works collaboratively with FANS management, Clinical Nutrition Coordinator and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with resolving patient concerns/complaints.
  • Works to ensure alternatives are made available to patient menu selections, as allowed on prescribed diet in accordance with food allergies and sensitivities, cultural, ethnic and religious preferences, when patient inquires or needs additional selections.
  • Effectively multi-task for unexpected daily events and provides redirection of resources, support and backup where needed to maintain quality operations and patient satisfaction.
  • Completes daily tray audit evaluating staff performance with patient meal selections, tray completion, tray delivery, and tray retrieval process. Results are effectively communicated, and deficiencies are fixed in a timely manner.
  • Follow and manage employee time management such as tardiness, call ins, early clock ins or late clock ins, and lunch breaks. Document any timecard issues so management can follow up with any coaching and/or potential write ups.
  • Assists managers in staff interviewing, hiring process, training, retention, scheduling and discipline/performance management.
  • Assumes responsibility for daily opening and/or closing of operation.
  • Participates and attends departmental meetings. Lead huddles, and staff development programs as appropriate.
  • Monitors an assures security of assets such as safe monies, Cisco phones, computers, food products, equipment, department keys, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to patients, employees, and MercyOne business.

What we are looking for:
  • Requires high school/GED completion.
  • Requires a minimum of one to two years food service experience in a business setting. Food Service supervisory experience preferred.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must perform a variety of duties in an ever changing fast paced environment.
  • Follows HACCP guidelines when receiving, assembling and distributing food supplies to ensure quality and safety of food supply.
  • Must possess the ability to lead teams and have time management awareness, attention to detail, and strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to make sound, well thought out decisions in order to provide an excellent work environment and exceptional patient experience.
  • Must have a general working knowledge of computers and ability to learn department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, CBORD, POS, Microsoft Windows, etc.).
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. General instructions are provided but individual must possess the ability to set priorities, finish tasks in a timely manner and refer questionable items to supervisor.
