JOB SUMMARY

Provide overall support to improving the Company's commitment to accurate forecasting. Responsible for following industry best practices to manage TTX railcar operational data to support and improve the process of fleet forecasting. Assist in determining the optimized framework for organizing the data and pipelines into analysis tools. Utilize data modeling tools and advanced technologies to integrate and analyze data. Apply advanced analytics to create and improve forecasting models for TTX's fleet usage and mileage forecasting. Provide periodic written analysis and presentation materials on the data, process and resulting forecasts. Work with other Marketing team members to understand the underlying freight industry to ensure a solid connection between the data and forecasts to the market.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

% Time Spent - Brief description of key tasks and accountabilities

10% - Input Data Management: Manage TTX operational data for use in forecasting models. Coordinate with departmental data owners (Fleet Management, Supply Chain, Maintenance Planning and Finance). Make quality checks on the data to ensure consistency and accuracy. Work with Information Technology (IT) to ensure data availability and accuracy.

25% - Planning & Forecasting Support: Assist Director of Fleet Research & Forecasting in both the annual process of preparing the long-term plan scenarios for TTX's 4-year plan and the quarterly forecast update process. This task requires extensive organization and communication with the Marketing team and the other elements of the Fleet department. This task includes creating presentation materials for cycle times, fleet usage and mileage for the business plan meetings for TTX leadership, railroads and other constituents. This responsibility requires coordinating deadlines and responsibilities with other contributors and assuring the accuracy of the numbers. Suggest new and better ways to communicate the trends and forecast. Great attention to detail is critical to ensure all elements of the plan are coordinated and reflect the most likely outcome for TTX's fleets.

25% - Forecasting Process Improvement: Work with the Director of Fleet Research & Forecasting to create new analytics, deploying modern data science, to find trends in the data that can be modeled for more accurate forecasts. Coordinate efforts with other Marketing team members to gain context into potential modeled scenarios to check for industry relevance. Deploy visualization tools (i.e. Tableau) to share the outputs with the larger Marketing team.

15% - Data Process Improvement: Work through cross-departmental teams to improve/optimize data flows to eliminate manual intervention and to improve automated feeds into the modeling process. Find new potential streams of data that might prove useful in the planning process.

15% - Data analytics: Develop analysis tools to enhance the forecasting process, including building easy-to-understand data analysis visualization. Support the team effort to implement the general planning improvement project.

10% - Other Duties: Assists others in Marketing on various ad-hoc projects in pulling pertinent data, running reports, providing analysis and assisting when other teammates are away.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in one of the following is required: statistics, operations research, engineering, applied science, mathematics, economics or business; Master's Degree candidate is preferred. Candidates should have 1-2 years of work experience with a demonstrated applicable background.

Strong quantitative skills: advanced statistics required, time series knowledge and forecasting experience required (project or practical experience).

Advanced analytics skills: develop and manage analysis tools with the use of statistical analysis and visual dashboards; prescriptive and exploratory analysis; use an inquisitive approach to how analysis can be streamlined and documented and recognize the need for new tools or analysis.

Industry experience: Logistics and/or transportation industry knowledge is a plus, as is awareness of rail equipment, data, processes and general rail industry workings.

Strong data skills: data collection, cleaning, verifying and general organization and prepping for analysis.

Critical thinking: conduct research, problem definition, root cause analysis, propose new approaches and look for ways to improve processes. Demonstrate an ability to interpret data, trends and findings as well as the skill to present and defend the findings to a knowledgeable audience.

Strong communication and writing skills: communicate facts, findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. Knowledge of InDesign publishing software is a plus.

Technical knowledge: SQL server (or any database) query skills are required. Statistical software (some programming as well) background is required. Knowledge of Python, or other programming languages, is required, as is experience with Tableau or Power BI.
