Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating 10 institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. Location of position: Nebraska State Penitentiary, Lincoln, NE
Examples of Work
Plans, assigns, schedules, and directs activities of assigned staff to establish schedules and priorities, to identify and resolve work needs, and to ensure continuity of operations. Manages on-the-job training (OJT) process, including but not limited to new hires, post rotations, and promotions. Supervises the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program, in partnership with respective facility supervision. Makes recommendations as to quantity and quality of OJT provided. Serves as contact for new hires in respective facility(s) providing leadership and assisting with questions or problems. Provides support to facility and department training as needed. Ensures the application of all Policies, Post Orders etc.; and may participate in the development of these policies. Evaluates performance, develops and implements classification specific employment standards; evaluates and improves individualized training modules; develops concepts and techniques specific to classification; provides technical assistance; coaches and counsels employees.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: High school education plus two years of corrections experience, and experience or training, in leading or supervising other staff. Must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition.

PREFERRED: NDCS experience. Training and/or staff supervision experience. Experience as a Field Training Officer.

OTHER: A valid driver's license is required. Schedule based on facility need. Anticipated hours include 16 weekend hours/per month and one evening per week. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the Policies, Procedures and Post Orders per facility, or the ability to quickly learn. Ability to create collaborative partnerships.

Ability to problem-solve training and learning needs. Skill/Knowledge of curriculum development and design.

Knowledge of ACA standards, KRONOS timekeeping system, Nebraska Inmate Case Management System (NICaMS), Microsoft Office and State of Nebraska Employee Development Center (EDC).
