Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Generalist, Human Resources performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, and benefits management. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The Generalist must be sensitive to Human Resources needs, employee goodwill, and the college needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Manages and works on assigned special projects within the Office of Human Resources
  2. Serves as project lead or co-lead for New Employee Immersion Program (NEIP), Supervisor Training, OHR Meeting Planning Committee, and other OHR initiatives
  3. Coaches, counsels, and guides supervisors on progressive discipline
  4. Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints
  5. Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards, and other government regulations
  6. Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce
  7. Answers non-routine requests for information on policy interpretation
  8. Assists with developing, coordinating, and recommending changes for the improvement of department workflows
  9. Prepares and maintains special internal and external reports as requested by the Senior AVC of Human Resources
  10. Monitors employee performance evaluations and ensures they are done in a timely manner
  11. May plan, assign, or supervise the work of others
  12. May function as an assistant to the Senior AVC of Human Resources or as a team leader
  13. Responsible for other related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or a related field
  • At least 3 years of human resources experience in a coordinator-level or above
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Human resources experience in higher education
  • At least 3 years of HR Generalist experience
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification or higher, or industry recognized equivalents
Salary

Hiring salary range is $52,430 - $60,295

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
