GHD is looking for a Graduate Scientist/Planner to join our Environment practice, with a focus on Transportation and Sustainability, and can be located anywhere in Southern California. This is an excellent opportunity for you to begin your career and develop your professional skills by learning from the senior-level staff within our Environment and Transportation service lines. This position will be based from one of our offices in southern California, based upon the location of the candidate.
Responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with fellow environmental planning professionals on a wide range of transportation, water, energy, and development projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of environmental impact analyses in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and/or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Field work could include: multimodal transportation data collection, pavement, signage, and striping condition observations, photographic documentation and measurements of the built environment.
- Office work could include: compilation, review & interpretation of background and/or sampling data, preparation of sections of reports & proposals, subcontractor coordination, summarizing data in tables and figures, preparation of materials to support client and public meetings.
- Conduct research and coordinate with public and private clients, internal and external engineering partners, technical subconsultants, and regulatory/resource agencies.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting project managers and other technical staff, on projects of varying size and complexity.
The ideal candidate will have the following skillset: - General familiarity with CEQA and NEPA.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic, team player, and ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
- Commitment to producing quality work within established budgets and schedules.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other MS Office Suite software, and internet research applications.
Successful Skills and Qualifications: - Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Policy, Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- 0-3 years of experience. Private consulting or public sector project work involving environmental documents for federal, state, regional, county, or city governments is attractive.
- Ability to travel and perform field work.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both within a team and independently.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range $68,000- $78,000 based on experience
