Position Information: Description

The mission of the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to prepare future leaders, to advance human well-being and improve quality of life for diverse populations, with an emphasis on rural communities in North Dakota, the region and beyond, through the provision of high-quality innovative inter-professional education, research and service. The function of the Research & Grants Management Office is to support the research agenda of the college by increasing the visibility of research activities, increasing the submission and the success rates of grants, and by supporting and enhancing faculty and student scholarly productivity.

Duties & Responsibilities

This position provides pre-award and post-award support for investigators including guidance in the procedures for grant preparation and submission and grants management and supports the research agenda of the CNPD. This position manages aspects of complex projects and budgets and participates in field project activities. The position acts as a signer in the absence of the Business Manager.

  • Provide proposal development assistance to faculty and students
    • Identify potential sources of funding and inform faculty and students of available opportunities
    • Contact funding agencies concerning specific programs, eligibility, grant preparation guidelines, etc.
    • Coordinate and assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals
    • Act as the budget advisor on grant proposal teams
    • Notify Dean's Office & CNPD Business Office of any department or college commitments proposed
    • Track and ensure proposal submission process is completed appropriately and timely
    • Act as liaison with central research administration offices
    • Develop initiatives to promote faculty success with grant proposals such as research work days
    • Foster collaboration within the department as well as facilitate interdisciplinary and inter-professional research
  • Perform tasks related to grant management
    • Manage overall grant effort
    • Monitor grant budgets of PIs
    • Coordinate the preparation of grant-related forms to various departments and funding agencies, including electronic submission packages
    • Assist PIs with carry-forward funding requests
    • Coordinate the preparation and distribution of monthly PI reports
    • Set up grants and track grant deadlines
    • Work with the Office of Grants & Contracts to achieve campus goals related to research and scholarship
  • Faculty Development
    • Track grant activity for effort and travel
    • Enter and monitor F&A distributions per college policy
    • Support faculty in research development
    • Report on grant activity to business office, dean's office and college
    • Prepare annual grant reports for outside entities and constituents
  • General Administration
    • Schedule, make arrangements and promote all events sponsored by the CNPD Research & Grants Management Office and research committee
    • Report on all CNPD scholarly presentations and publications
    • Communicate with the college community, faculty research and scholarly accomplishments, upcoming grant opportunities and other information as it pertains to the CNPD research agenda
    • Take minutes, schedule and serve as general administrator for research committees
    • Support CNPD Business Manager and perform duties when manager is absent, including acting as official signer, monitor funds and communicate to faculty and staff
  • Supervise GRAs and other staff as needed
    • Accept applications, interview and hire GRA workforce
    • Assign research projects to GRAs from faculty
    • Monitor GRA budget, hours and projects
    • Supervise staff as assigned
    • Provide leadership to team in completing projects and assigned tasks

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in business administration or related field of study
  • 5+ years related experience 
  • 1+ years management/leadership experience
  • Budget and accounting experience with basic math competency
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Public Health or Administration or related field of study
  • Experience applying University of North Dakota policies/procedures
  • Experience with UND's PeopleSoft finance and HRMS modules
  • Experience in grants administration and payroll management
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$53,000 annual, exempt, full-time, benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am-4:30pm. Position starts as soon as possible after accepted offer.
