University Communications has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Graphic Designer and Brand Manager position.

NATURE OF WORK

Focus on: brand management, implementation, and guidelines; creative and production design; asset creation and management; brand communicator/trainer

As a member of the University Communications team, the graphic designer and brand manager provides creative guidance, shapes design direction and creates designs from concept through production. This role defines, applies, and champions the CU Denver brand identity and elevates the overall awareness and quality of the university's design solutions.

Responsibilities include design concepting and production for all aspects of the brand, both digital and print. The graphic designer and brand manager will serve as a creative strategist, designer, educator and consultant for all brand expressions, such as logos, supporting graphics, video, photography, illustrations, signage elements, among other applications. This role helps to determine the long-term visual design direction for the university and ensures that others who provide design work understand and follow that direction.

This role will play an integral role in the development and implementation of university-wide brand standards: working with others throughout campus to provide training and guidance around design best practices and brand executions and serving as the go-to resource for our brand standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Design
    Works with clients to understand needs and objectives and translates requests into thoughtful, creative designs; ensures alignment with marketing goals and strategies and audience insights Under direction, creates concepts and executes designs for key university communications; collaborates with content producers to ensure business objectives are met with the proper tone, messaging and visuals Provides efficient creative and production design with day-to-day project management for University Communications projects and initiatives Collaborates with stakeholders to create new design templates in multiple mediums which adhere to brand standards; educates stakeholders on use of templates and associated software Works with UX designers and stakeholders to create digital standards and graphic assets that can be utilized throughout the university's digital platform; builds out concepts/wireframes for various digital projects Collaborates with marketing team to create print and digital ad campaigns Provides motion graphics support for video and animation projects

Art direction/brand management
    Under direction, develops, maintains and improves brand guidelines, assets, resources and training systems to promote consistency across campus communications and CU System brand Serves as brand steward and resource for applying the brand including campus trainings on the application of the brand and providing customer service support on brand usage Reviews faculty/staff and other stakeholders' design and proactively provides real-time feedback and direction Reviews promotional items punctually for proper branding through licensing portal; provides solutions Collaborates on the maintenance of the digital asset management system including file preparation, organization, categorization and distribution Establishes and maintains a centralized archive of presentations, marketing materials and communications that are accessible to various functional groups internally

    Supports and engages in initiatives designed to foster effective collaboration within University Communications Participates in professional development opportunities; reports back learnings Supports projects led by colleagues within University Communications Works collaboratively with colleagues within the marketing, content, comms, and web verticals to help achieve department and university strategic priorities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    A bachelor's degree in design, communications, marketing, fine arts or related field from an accredited institution Five years of full-time, professional experience in brand/account management, advertising, graphic design, communications or related field Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office, in particular PowerPoint

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment: The position is required to be on site a minimum of 4 days a week.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Three to five years or more of professional experience in graphic design role
  • Graphic design and art direction experience for a range of media
  • Experience building, managing and evolving brands
  • Experience in video editing and post-production and/or motion graphic design and animation
  • Experience with digital asset management systems
  • Experience in training and onboarding users to organizational design and brand standards, tools and applications

    Ability to meet time-sensitive requests through effective communication, time management, follow-through and high-quality design Ability to appropriately balance client desires, business objectives and brand standards Ability to take on larger strategic projects, requiring development and presentation of multiple concepts, to highlight key messaging through the combination of strong impactful visuals/design and content organization Ability to solve complex problems; coordinate with management to make judgments and decisions that will impact brand and design practices and applications Up-to-date with the latest design trends and best practices; interest in pushing creative boundaries Self-starter who can work both independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team environment Ability to manage a diverse workload with multiple competing priorities and stakeholder needs Confidence and good judgment to effectively interface with colleagues at all levels of the organization Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills to develop collaborative and productive partnerships Ability to follow through on tasks AND follow guidance and direction Excellent written and verbal communication skills Group presentation skills Detail oriented with strong consistency over time

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $62,653-$77,000. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
