Governors State University is seeking to hire a Greek Life Administrator for the Student Life department. This inaugural position is groundbreaking and works to create space for Greek-lettered organizations to form new fraternal and sorority chapters in new and innovative ways. The primary responsibilities of this position include the oversight of programs and trainings that support fraternities and sororities at Governors State University. The Greek Life Administrator will serve as an advocate, advisor, and resource for Greek-lettered organizations. The Greek Life Administrator develops, coordinates, and implements initiatives for chapters and members which promote learning, growth, and development, The Greek Life Administrator's focus includes an emphasis on academic achievement, values-based leadership, diversity, and service. The Greek Life Administrator is also responsible for maintaining chapter data, travel with student delegations to conferences, and policy enforcement. Under the general direction of the Director, the Greek Life Administrator is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to Greek-letter organizations at Governors State University.

Essential Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities
Provide support to Greek-lettered organizations regarding membership intake, hazing prevention, and programming.

Training and Education (35%)
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of services and initiatives sponsored by the department of various student organizations.
  • Conduct regular and ongoing workshops, trainings, and/or retreats on behalf of the department to serve various groups including staff, students and/or student organizations, faculty and/or faculty advisors, and parents.
  • Build relationships with campus partners to create collaborative educational efforts to serve students.
  • Assist the Director in development, implementation, and evaluation of risk management strategies for fraternities and sororities (Student Code of Conduct, inter/national policies and regulations, insurance requirements, etc.).
  • Conduct educational conversations and organizations regarding conduct of the organization.
  • Assist Director in creating an updated training model catered to positions rather than chapter or council.

  • Advising and Management (33%)
  • Advise the fraternity and sorority governing boards and chapters including but not exclusive to Interfraternity Council, United Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Multicultural Greek Council and Panhellenic Association. This includes attending weekly council meetings and individual meetings with council/chapter leaders - providing supervision, support and mentorship.
  • Council, meet, and communicate regularly with Greek Life organizational presidents, chapter leaders, and faculty and staff advisors.
  • Assist in the production, collection, and management of accurate membership records, recruitment statistics and scholarship reports.
  • Support chapter extension processes and implementation.
  • Attend events planned within the department, division, or by the student organizations as needed.
  • Assist the Director in working with advisors in inter/national headquarters staff.

  • Administrative Duties (32%)
  • Communicate, interpret, and enforce University policies and expectations to students, advisors, and Greek council headquarters.
  • Assist the Director in the policy creation, implementation, and enforcement related to Fraternity and Sorority life.
  • Maintain departmental website.
  • Works with chapters to stay in congruence with their national policies as dictated by inter/national organizations.
  • Works with chapters to say congruence with local, state, and federal laws (i.e., alcohol and drug policies as well as hazing and physical abuse).
  • Serve on university and departmental committees as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional activities.
  • Assist in the implementation of formal recruitment processes.
  • Assist in other recruitment and intake efforts.

  • Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment; and no hazardous conditions exist.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Length of Lunchtime
    Days and hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 60-minute unpaid lunch.Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.First 90 days of employment, this position reports on campus. Hybrid schedule is subject to the demands of the department and at the discretion of the Director.TravelSome travel is required in this position.Salary Range: $59,811.38 to $65,000.(This is a non-unionized position.     Required and Preferred Qualifications

    REQUIRED: COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS, WHICH INCLUDES THE EARNED DEGREE AND CONFERRED DATE MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS POSITION (See "Special instructions to applicants" section below).
    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related field.
  • Three (3) years' experience advising student organizations, sororities and fraternities, higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with student organizations on a university or college campus.
  • Knowledge of national fraternity and sorority policies and procedures, experience working with Greek organizations on a campus or headquarters level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of policy development, education, and implementation; risk management and mitigation; and value-based leadership.

  • Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience advising Greek Governing Councils including but not limited to interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, Multicultural/United Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council.
  • One (1) to two (2) years' experience understanding in policy development, education, and implementation; risk management and mitigation; and value-based leadership.
  • Professional experience working in a college or university environment.
  • Knowledge of best practices and ability to infuse research with practical experience to create intentional programs for fraternity and sorority life.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for program and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Membership in a Culturally Based Fraternal Organization (CBFO).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work with a fast-paced environment, contribute to the development of the department, and demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Must actively participate in promoting an inclusive environment that values diversity and inclusion.
