GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.

Working under the clinical direction of a Plastic Surgeon or Nurse Practitioner and administratively under the direction of the Senior Administrative Manager, the Hair Replacement Technician performs techniques in the completion of follicular extraction and implantation. Properly operates equipment for the slivering, cutting and implanting of micro follicular grafts. Ensures patient comfort and safety during procedures. Provides effective communication to the members of the care team as well as the patient. Completes appropriate documentation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

  • Prepares procedure room and supplies in advance of procedure and addresses any environmental concerns for patient and/or provider during hair transplantation.
  • Under direction of the plastic surgeon or designee, applies topical antiseptic and analgesic preparations to patient's scalp.
  • Properly positions patient or provides directions to patient for proper position.
  • Operates equipment to harvest, sliver, cut and implant micro follicular grafts according to protocol.
  • Prepares, cleans and troubleshoots equipment, referring issues to management.
  • Works safely and ensures the comfort and safety of each patient; maintains a sterile field.
  • Tracks and documents hairs grafted as well as instrument and equipment usage.
  • Performs post-procedure room clean up, restocking and other related housekeeping.
  • Supports the patient during procedures, such as with ambulation.
  • Provides patients with take home materials, such as post-procedure care information.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and regulations, for the safe and effective service to patients, including HIPAA.
  • Maintains own professional development through staying current in the field and continuing education.
  • Provides additional assistance to clinical staff during procedure and performs other duties as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: List the number of FTEs supervised.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Indicate financial "scope" information, i.e.: size of budget, volume, revenue, etc.

Prudent use of hospital resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Describe the conditions in which the work is performed.

Outpatient medical office with work conducted in well-lit clinical procedure room; routine exposure to cleaning agents, topical pain and cleansing agents, noise, light and other conditions. May be exposed to bodily fluids and tissues. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods. Able to lift, push, pull and carry and may need to assist patients such as with sitting, rising and ambulation.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: Specify minimum creditable years of experience and clearly indicate if preferred or required

  • A minimum of 1 - 2 years of work experience as a hair replacement technician required.
  • Prior experience as a surgical technologist, certified medical assistant, esthetician, licensed practical nurse or comparable required.
  • Experience using FUE technology required with NeoGraft equipment preferred.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, measurable, objective, and related to the essential functions of the job.)

  • Understanding of hair replacement techniques, standards and equipment with knowledge of FUE procedures.
  • Skill with NeoGraft equipment or similar.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain sterile field.
  • Knowledge and application of patient confidentiality as well as procedure requirements, policies and regulations.
  • Able to follow instructions and protocols.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hair transplantation equipment and other procedure-related instruments.
  • Can work independently and as a member of a team with good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, family members and staff.
  • Good attention to details and is organized with good time management.
  • Works accurately and documents appropriately.
  • Protects the safety and comfort of the patient and works in a safe and proper manner; properly utilizes personal protective equipment.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable): Specify minimum credentials and clearly indicate if preferred or required

Maintains appropriate certification, registration or license in MA.

EDUCATION: Specify minimum education and clearly indicate if preferred or required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate from an accredited program as a surgical technologist, medical assistant, esthetician, practice nurse or comparable clinical field.
  • Must be certified or licensed in field of study through approved reviewing agency.
  • Successful completion of hair replacement training and maintenance of continuing education.
