Description:
Provides administrative assistance to the Head of the Department of Chemistry, including managing transactions and communications between the Department of Chemistry and units within and outside of the University, and between the Head and Departmental faculty and staff. Serves as HR manager for the Department of Chemistry. Works as part of a team with other support staff. Provides administrative support for Department of Chemistry faculty, and with other administrative team members provides support for graduate and undergraduate students.
Duties:
Assist the Head of the Department of Chemistry in the management of the day-to-day operations of the department. Advises the Head, Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director of Labs, and Director of Undergrad Labs of the Department of Chemistry on university policies and procedures for Human Resources, Student Employment, Faculty Affairs, Office of International Services, and OBFS Payroll as they relate to their unit..
Manage all aspects of department Human Resource matters with the University Human Resources Department, Academic Human Resources, Faculty Affairs Human Resources, and the Office of Access & Equity. This includes writing job descriptions for civil service and academic positions. Manages faculty searches and hires for all staff, including civil service, graduate students, academic professionals, and faculty.
Manage the teaching/research appointments for the Chemistry Department's graduate students for Fall, Spring and Summer sessions. This entails working with department faculty, graduate students, and accounting staff to ensure the correct appointments are paid out of the correct accounts.
Manage the preparation and collection of materials for successful promotion and tenure cases for review by the Department Advisory Committee, College and other University committees. Insures compliance with department, college and university policies and procedures
Manage department front office support staff, setting schedules and priorities. Manage the preparation of reports, surveys, projections, and responses to various requests for information from both inside and outside the University. Recommends and implements changes in administrative and operational policies and procedures for the department.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
