We are currently seeking applications to fill the following job opening at Celgard where we develop and manufacture membrane battery separators that are critical components used in lithium-ion batteries for electric drive vehicles (EDVs) and energy storage systems (ESS).

Job Description:

The HVAC Mechanic role is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing, inspecting, troubleshooting, testing, and installation support of systems (HVAC) equipment (includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, compressed air, pneumatics, humidity control, electrical, auxiliary heating/cooling, monitoring and control systems).

General Duties of the Job:

  • Operating, maintaining, inspecting, testing and repairing engineering facility systems. Systems include electrical, (HVAC), heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, water, air, fire facility monitoring and Building Automation System.
  • Understand Cleanroom HEPA filtration systems, cleanroom requirements and protocol
  • Understanding of complete HVAC system monitoring best practices of optimum manufacturing run conditions
  • Utilizes technical publications, diagrams, etc., to accomplish maintenance, repair and the ordering of material and equipment.
  • Accomplishes required services for (HVAC) systems that utilize Freon (CFC-HCFC)
  • Operate PIV equipment (forklifts, man lifts, etc.)
  • Repair and/or replace electrical components
  • Maintain screw type chillers and water cooled air handlers
  • Maintains operations and maintenance records
  • Work collaboratively with others; lead and participate on cross-functional teams
  • Follow all Celgard safety guidelines and procedures; plan safety into projects and tasks
  • Must keep all Celgard information CONFIDENTIAL.

Education/Certifications:
  • Associates degree in technical related field, or completion of an accredited trade school in (HVAC) heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems or equivalent training required
  • EPA Clean Air Section 608 License required
  • NC Electrician License preferred
  • NC FTE FS-M preferred
  • Special courses in electrical, pneumatic, facility monitoring/control and power plant systems are preferred.

Work Experience/Qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience in an industrial environment maintaining and repairing HVAC systems required
  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide range of AC/DC electrical systems required
  • Ability to repair and/or replace electrical components that make up HVAC systems required.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 30 feet, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend and twist in order to reach remote equipment
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed
  • Flexibility to carry a cell phone for coverage and site wide communication. Also willing to work a 2nd or 3rd shift schedule when required.
  • Proficiency with computers and computer applications (MS Office, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to use special tools and equipment in order to install and maintain HVAC systems (tools include but are not limited to hammers, wrenches, electric drills, pipe cutters, metal cutters, benders, thermometers, pressure gauges, manometers, acetylene torches, and volt meters, etc)
  • PIV equipment license (forklifts, man lifts, etc)
  • Have the ability to work on a high performing team, contributing to an environment where open and honest communication is the norm.
  • Ability to build effective workplace relationships, motivating co-workers, and supporting co-worker development.
  • Must be able to deal with conflict productively, bringing forth issues that need to be discussed and work to forge a mutually beneficial outcome.
  • Must have the desire to be empowered & work in a collaborative environment
