Job Title: HVAC Mechanic (SHC) for EMCOR at Stanford Health Care

Job Summary: EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a HVAC Mechanic at Stanford Healthcare Center in Palo Alto, CA. Responsible for trouble shooting, repairs, installs, and performs preventative maintenance on all the HVAC systems, and other buildings related to the contract by performing the following duties. This is position requires mechanical, electrical, and plumbing background. Knowledge of replacement, repair and maintenance of building related mechanical, electrical, control systems, plumbing, air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers, expansion joints, and other building mechanical systems. Work involves the lifting of heavy mechanical equipment. Receives and responds to service calls, takes immediate action to resolve emergency situations or system breakdowns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of all related mechanical, electrical, control systems, air handling units, pumps, motors, heat exchangers, and expansion joints.
  • Monitors safe and efficient operations of HVAC / refrigeration systems in accordance with departmental requirements; corrects deficiencies according to PM / CM and manufacturers specifications.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration systems, as well as fan coil or dx units, and other equipment as assigned.
  • Installs and services new HVAC / refrigeration equipment. Perform all aspects of repairs to Air Handling Units (AHU) to include filter replacement, bearing replacement, motor replacement, belt replacement and proper alignment.
  • Coordinates inspections, repairs, and installation in consultation with staff in affected areas to minimize disruption of hospital, clinic, and office operations.
  • Complete Work Order and Preventative Maintenance (PM) paperwork in a timely and professional manner. Participates in the computerized maintenance management system (MAXIMO) for work and equipment documentation.
  • Participate in the building management system (ALC, Siemens, Johnson Controls Metasys system). Monitor design parameters for status and efficiency. Assist in programming recommendations for the system.
  • Track refrigerant loss, procurement, and storage per government and regulatory standards.
  • Install, maintain, and repair all field devices for the Temperature Tracking System.
  • Participate in the testing of HVAC shutdown by duct smoke detectors.
  • Performs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance on air conditioning units, fans, air handlers, water heaters, converters, duct work and system controls.
  • Request assistance from plumbers, painters, electricians, carpenters, and Building Engineers when necessary.
  • Be able to read and understand architectural and mechanical drawings.
  • Be able to read and understand manufacture's submittals and literature. Review and provide recommendations to preventive maintenance inspections and procedures.
  • Be able to specify and order material and replacement parts for equipment as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with department safety and quality standards to optimize effective utilization of resources and productivity.
  • Be able to understand and implement infectious control policies and procedures.
  • Follow and implement standard Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
  • Attends weekly Tool Box safety meetings.
  • Repair all restroom fixtures, sweat/braze copper pipe, thread black pipe.
  • Drain & "safe off" systems to facilitate repairs.
  • Perform minor carpentry tasks, replace ceiling tiles, repair or replace door hardware, locks, panic bars etc.
  • Perform minor electrical tasks to include bulb and ballast replacement.
  • Routine operation and inspection of emergency generator, UPS and associated components.
  • Requisition necessary material to complete required repairs.
  • Inspect mechanical, electrical systems, trace electrical circuits, operate switch-gear, record inspections, and write reports to Supervisors.
  • Perform any additional duties on an as "required" basis where such duties are within the scope of contractual obligations.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a current Universal CFC license.
  • Must complete OSHA 10 General Safety and Health training class (supplied by EMCOR).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and/or electronic systems.
  • Experience & proven ability to repair building electrical, plumbing, & HVAC auxiliary systems.
  • Experience & proven ability to safely secure hydronic and electrical systems for maintenance.
  • Experience & proven ability to Braze/Solder copper pie, thread black pipe.
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • Strong knowledge of operation of building auxiliary systems i.e. fire-life safety, stand by emergency generators, UPS Systems.
  • Familiarity of general building systems i.e. vertical lift equipment, overhead doors.
  • Ability to write, execute written and oral instructions and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices and procedures typical for maintenance operations.
  • Ability to safely wear a respirator, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, lift heavy objects and perform other physically demanding tasks Safely and skillfully use all types of related hand and power tools.
  • Hospital experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

In an 8-hour day, must be able to continually bend, squat, kneel, lift, twist, climb, reach, stand and walk; to use hands for repetitive pushing, pulling, and single grasp motion; and to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to move objects in excess of 100 pounds, and travel by government or company vehicle to work location or to other destinations as required.
