Our Santa Rosa, California office has an excellent opportunity for a HVAC/Plumbing Mechanical Engineer. This position offers a great variety of projects and the opportunity to advance into a lead mechanical engineering role.

Working with our Engineering Design Organization, this position offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects, collaborate with talented professionals, and make a significant impact within our organization and the communities we serve. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Technical Expertise: Providing expertise and guidance on various engineering projects, with a focus on heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building plumbing systems, process piping systems, energy management systems (EMS), central plants, and more.
  • Design Delivery: Supporting the production of complex engineering designs, drawings, details, and specifications.
  • Project Scope and Schedule Management: Assisting project managers and discipline leads in developing and managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality plans. Your expertise will contribute to effective project planning and execution.
  • Leadership: Supporting cohesive project teams, including subconsultants, to achieve project objectives, promoting collaboration, and creating a positive work environment.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Supporting the coaching and mentoring of junior staff, and helping them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Professional Engagement: Engaging in community and professional organizations, representing our company and staying up-to-date with industry trends.
The ideal candidate would have the following skills:
  • Experience in heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building plumbing systems, process piping systems, energy management systems (EMS), and central plants.
  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams - e.g. Architects, Civil, Structural, Electrical, and Fire Protection engineers.
  • Experience supporting all stages of the project life-cycle, including preparing project scope and fee proposals, writing feasibility studies, preparing basis of design reports, consulting, developing detailed design drawings and specifications, developing budgetary construction cost estimates, and providing construction support.
  • Strong foundation and proficiency across multiple software design platforms - experience with AutoCAD required, and Revit and/or EnergyPro is highly desired.
  • Experience with California Codes.
  • Experience with the LEED building certification system is desired.
  • Capability to provide mentorship to staff within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment and knowledge with staff and peers.
  • Proven professional judgement, including identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving problems.
  • Excellence at all stages of the project life-cycle, from preparing bids to feasibility studies, consenting, detailed design and data analysis, and stakeholder management
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely convey complex issues.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have HVAC/Plumbing experience
  • Fundamentals of Engineer (FE) Certification required; California Mechanical Engineering (ME) license preferred. Other state engineering registrations may be considered.
  • 5+ years in consulting mechanical engineering experience in commercial, educational, City, State and Federal facilities.
