Description

The Industrial Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective distribution processes and methods in accordance with product and customer specifications and quality standards. Responsible for recommending and implementing improvements to production processes, methods and controls and coordinating distribution launch for new and revised products. Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the warehouse engineered standards.

What You Will Be Doing:

Maintain and advance ReaderLink's productivity and management focus for warehouse systems.

  • Develop engineered labor standards and maintain through formal follow-up.
  • Assist the DC analyst and labor planners in integrating labor planning throughout each facility.
  • Conduct coaching sessions with associates to increase productivity.
  • Facilitate process brainstorming and roundtable sessions with associates and management to identify continuous improvement opportunities worth testing and implementing.
  • Be on the warehouse floor 75% of the time. That is where the action is, and we need our engineer engaging associates and managers in process improvements.

Facility Planning, Capacity and Optimization:
  • Master all processes, systems and technology currently deployed in the facility.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize existing processes, systems and technology through data analysis and engineering investigation. Develop broad business and technical cost justification for new technology.
  • Develop an understanding of future business opportunities and develop recommendations for flexible processing to enable efficient growth.
  • Maintain accurate drawings of all facilities in AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio programs.
  • Analyze space needs and demands on consistent basis. Publish weekly reports.
  • Assist DC Managers with capacity planning.

Special Projects:
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and process flow charts for all departments.
  • Analyze and provide recommendations labor "insourcing" strategy.
  • Improve slotting process in DCs.
  • Create optimization opportunities across the operation.
  • Create a "Visual Factory" through development of 6S.
  • Develop distribution center network strategies to minimize costs.

What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering or similar degree.
  • Experience in time study, warehouse management systems, quality/continuous improvement initiatives, and distribution safety practices experienced.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Visio) and AutoCAD.
  • Blue Yonder experience a plus.
  • SQL/Data experience.
  • Experience with simulation software and lean principles.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle insurance required.
  • Travel requirements for this position are up to 30% at times.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to partner with the operations management team to influence positive continuous change in ReaderLink's supply chain.
  • Must be able to use the principles of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and other advanced topics in mathematics for analysis, design, and troubleshooting.
  • Critical-thinking skills - the individual creates new systems to solve problems related to waste and inefficiency. Solving these problems requires logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weakness of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to the problems.
