Job Description

The mission of the GM IT Enterprise Technology Architecture team is to collaborate cross functionally to promote IT innovation, increase IT efficiency, manage complexity, and mitigate risk. We do this by defining and communicating technology architecture strategy, promoting technology reuse, enabling IT standardization, and facilitating education, support and problem solving across the extended GM IT organization.

As an Applied Architect, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Define and develop the IT technology architecture strategy and roadmap, with consideration of cloud native principles, multi-cloud architecture patterns, and hybrid IT factors
  • Collaborate with cross functional IT Architects to define and design technical architectures and design patterns, as well as, develop and identify solution reuse opportunities
  • Analyze the existing environment for architectural gaps and inefficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement
  • Consult to support innovative and proof of concept solutions
  • Define and support standardizing cloud consumption models
  • Forecast and communicate new architecture trends for consideration in GM IT
  • Provide direction for evolving platforms in GM IT for cloud, legacy, and on-premise solutions
  • Provide industry leading technical direction and guidance to ensure appropriate and cost-effective application of GM approved technologies
  • Introduce and accelerate adoption ofnew technologies and methodologies to support GM IT technology transformation initiatives

To succeed in the role, an applied architect must have communication, analytical, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Other skills and expertise include cloud computing, system architecture, strategy development and enterprise solutions.

Additional Job Description

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information technology or equivalent experience/training
  • At least 10 years' experience in analysis, design, and development of applications in a large-scale enterprise technology organization
  • At least 5 years' experience as a technical lead / architect
  • Strong working knowledge of software design, selection and deployment techniques and methodologies
  • Practical knowledge of the application architecture design methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience in creating architectural deliverables and presenting to senior leadership
  • Comfortable in developing a quick POC to prove out any technology / design
  • Expertise and passion in driving cloud native principles and solutions
  • Experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems in cloud, non-cloud, as well as hybrid environments
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with a sense of ownership and drive
  • Strong working knowledge of general architectural patterns, technologies, and architecture management processes
  • Experience with security architectures and designs
  • Effective collaboration skills, focusing on strong working relationships with the extended IT team
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
