Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $18.00 to $23.00 hourly, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Summary: The Irrigation Specialist designs, installs, and maintains all Best Friends' irrigation systems in and around Kanab. They are also responsible for ongoing maintenance and care of natural and landscapes areas of the Sanctuary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

You are responsible and accountable for the culture you add to your team dynamic.
  • Responsible for routine maintenance, repair and adjustment of all organization owned irrigation systems at the Sanctuary and in Kanab.
  • Responsible for design and installation of new irrigation systems while working within a set budget.
  • Responsible for completing assigned customer work orders in a timely and professional manner
  • Performs manual and power tool assisted weed removal from lawns, garden & flower beds, rock beds, walkways, parking lots, animal areas, areas of heavy traffic and natural landscaped areas.
  • Assists the Landscape Manager with design, planning, installation, and maintenance of new landscaped areas.
  • Facilitates the Irrigation Apprenticeship Program.
  • Performs snow removal tasks during winter months.
  • Dedication to continued education and maintaining current industry best practices.
  • Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
  • Must be personally committed to the Mission and Core Values of the Best Friends Animal Society. (http://bestfriends.org/about-best- friends/our-mission).
  • Minimum 2 years experience in landscaping.
  • Ability to work alone as well as working as part of a team.
  • Experience operating and maintaining landscape equipment and tools.
  • A positive approach to challenging situations.
  • Sensitivity to environmental stewardship and industry best practices.
  • An ability to learn on the job and a desire to learn new skills.
  • General basic computer skills required; email, calendar & internet applications.
  • Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' positions on issues.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for prolonged periods in all weather conditions with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity daily, including, but not limited to: climbing up and down ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a 3-year clean driving record.
