Position Summary:

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning within the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science (COS) at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL is seeking an IT Coordinator / Research Associate.

The IT Coordinator / Research Associate provides technical assistance, both hardware and software, to students, faculty, and staff with their computers, tablets, mobile devices, and related accessories.

Summary of Responsibilities include:

  • Provides technical support to the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, including but not limited to configuring and installing computers, laptops, tablets, and printers. Assists in troubleshooting network connectivity problems, both wired and wireless.
  • Assigning users to network shares, configuring smartphones, imaging URP-owned laptops and desktops, developing and maintaining documentation, designing, testing, and installing operating systems and application software on desktop systems.
  • Update Help desk tickets effectively and clearly. Desktop and hardware support are also included, as well as research, testing, and administration of server systems.
  • The ability to troubleshoot software, network and hardware related issues is fundamental to critical job function.
  • Recommends technology solutions to departments as required by his/her supervisor.

The candidate is responsible for the technical aspects of teaching and research programs within the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Visual Planning Technology Lab. They will support data science and big data initiatives and serve as a technical liaison to the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and FAU OIT. Additional duties include program management support to projects to meet cost, scope and schedule metrics set forth by the research program, as well as support for writing data management plans for grant proposals and presentations.

Interest in teaching, specifically in GIS and advanced visualization technologies, is also welcome.

Minimum Qualifications:A Master of Science in Management Information Systems or a related discipline by the time of appointment is required.

Good written and verbal skills are a must, and superior customer service skills are essential.

Experience with Active Directory, SCCM, and/or Intune preferred.

Experience with managing a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) such as Citrix, Azure, and VMWare.

Experience with installing, supporting, and troubleshooting Windows and Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office365 suite is required.

Experience with supporting mobile devices such as iPhone and Android is required.
