Overview

This position is primarily responsible for managing programming and development efforts to production systems in one or more technology platforms. Oversees the work of a team responsible for designing, building, testing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting applications. Coordinates outsourced application development and oversees programming staff including contractors and consultants in assigned technology area. Manages day to day activities within the organization's application software development function.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creates and runs the development practice for an assigned technology area.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees. Mentors Developers and Senior Developers. Provides regular coaching and quarterly scorecard reviews.
  • Leads Developers and Senior Developers in application development activities.
  • Provides statistics/updates of IT deliverables for team on a regular basis.
  • Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.
  • Performs resource planning for staff.
  • Participates in creating and following a project plan as well as keeping developers on schedule.
  • Works to establish functional application requirements and reviews solutions to ensure organizational needs are met.
  • Designs, develops, analyzes, codes and unit tests computer systems or programs.
  • Develops and maintains development best practice documentation.
  • Coordinates external development resources.
  • Develops and manages relationships with outside vendors providing development services to IT, including contract negotiations and enforcement of service level agreements.
  • Ensures developers follow best practices.
  • Conducts design reviews to ensure that new/changed functionality is implemented with the most appropriate design approach.
  • Conducts code reviews to ensure development standards are being followed by the development team.
  • Ensures all system changes are fully documented including data mapping between systems and field definitions prior to deploying to production.
  • Reviews functional requirements with appropriate business systems team and development staff.
  • Creates technical requirements based on functional requirements.
  • Develops prototypes, as required, based on user or system design specifications.
  • Supports production applications including problem solving and debugging of application code.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience, in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems.
  • 6+ years leading teams in design, development, and deployment of systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and time management skills.

Technical Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledgeable in SQL Server RDBMS, Microsoft ASP.NET, Salesforce, Information Technology Support methodologies, data management strategy and basic Software Applications.
