A lab manager position funded by federal grants is available in the cancer biology laboratory of Dr. Kenneth P. Nephew, Jerry W. and Peggy S. Throgmartin Chair in Oncology, at the Indiana University School of Medicine - Bloomington.
The laboratory is located in Bloomington, Indiana providing both a dynamic environment with interactions and core resources on the flagship campus of Indiana University as well as the energy and excitement of being on a major college campus. Moreover, full access to the resources at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and the IU School of Medicine are readily available.
Bloomington itself is a vibrant city with many urban amenities, including theatre productions, live music, art exhibits, and a wide range of culinary options, while still being in the hilly, forested landscape of south-central Indiana.
Job Summary
Projects will utilize a variety of general cell and molecular biology approaches and other in vitro techniques, as well as in vivo approaches to study cancer.
General Responsibilities
- Leads research activities and protocol development.
- Maintains equipment, including preventive maintenance, scheduling repairs as needed, service agreement negotiations, trouble shooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining an active list of vendors to respond to equipment loss.
- Supervises, mentors, and provides training for junior-level staff.
- Prepares summary data reports, and creates and maintains databases for storage and analysis.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations.
- May design and conduct a wide range of complex experiments.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required - Bachelor's degree in a science related field.
Preferred - Master's degree in a science related field..
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required - 3 years of laboratory research experience.

Working Conditions / DemandsThe role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
