Job Description

General:

• Process seed samples submitted for bacteria and BFB testing
• Assist Bacteriology/BFB Supervisor in assuring that samples are processed to meet Quality goals
• Maintain Seed Health Bacteriology and BFB laboratory spaces, equipment and incubators
• Conduct work in accordance with the Quality assurance system of the laboratory
• Provide customer service for the Bacteriology/BFB laboratory
• Follow all laboratory Health and safety policies

Specific:

• Perform all aspects of Bacteriology and BFB sample processing including but not limited to, counting and preparing samples, running of samples and spread plating, planting seed samples, and preparing buffers and media
• Performs qPCR for BFB seed wash testing
• Reads BFB in the sweatbox
• Maintain adequate inventory of supplies to process samples
• Assist in determining resource and labor requirements to meet quality assurance goals
• Participate in training of co-workers on Bacteriology or BFB procedures to assist with labor requirements
• Assist in keeping equipment calibrated and up to date
• Assure that glassware, plastic ware, and other supplies are clean/appropriate for the preparation of media, buffers and solutions, and others
• Record processing information
• Maintain customer confidentiality in accordance with EBDI policies
• Re-streaks positive when necessary

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED
• Minimum 1yrs lab experience or a BS in plant biology or related fields
