Job Description:


Budget Title: Lead Programmer Analyst (SL-3)


Salary: Commensurate with experience


Binghamton University's Information Technology Services (ITS) is looking for an experienced system administrator to support our Learning Management System, currently D2L Brightspace as well as our Zoom Video Conferencing environment.


The LMS Administrator will be responsible for the administration of our LMS and Zoom environments including development and design, maintenance, support, training, and communications. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently of direct supervision, as well as collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students. The administrator will report to the Assistant Director of Client Support Services, and work with the senior LMS administrator, other members of the ITS staff, and various departments and faculty across campus.


The LMS Administrator will:


  • Provide Brightspace administration and support for D2L Brightspace including managing permissions and roles, course associations and merges, and installing, supporting, and administering third-party learning tools as requested.
  • Administer Binghamton University's Zoom environment.
  • Provide faculty, staff, and students with second level technical support assistance for the LMS and Zoom.
  • Provide high-quality and timely customer service.
  • Respond to TeamDynamix (ITSM) tickets for LMS and Zoom issues and usage questions.
  • Serve as an escalation contact for support issues, including those with D2L for Brightspace, Zoom, and other vendor support services.
  • Collaborate on configuration, maintenance, documentation, and support of LMS services in a production environment.
  • Participate in the integration (planning, testing, and implementation) of new technologies including Brightspace updates and third-party products.
  • Help create, manage, and enforce standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in and contribute to committees, work groups, and project teams.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of workshops about Brightspace.
  • Offer faculty one-on-one and drop-in sessions relevant to topics based on the academic calendar.
  • Maintain and update support websites and Knowledge Articles related to the LMS.
  • Must be able to maintain data confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, etc.).


Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of one year experience in LMS administration and technical support with Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, or other LMS
  • Experience assisting faculty, staff, and students with effectively using the LMS in traditional and hybrid learning environments
  • Ability to apply flexible, patient, and creative solutions to issues as they arise
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with technical and non-technical clients
  • Experience writing and/or editing technical documentation
  • Basic understanding of instructional design principles, practices, and/or theories
  • Must be a positive, hardworking person able to deal successfully with a diverse group of users, faculty, staff and students
  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices

Preferred:


  • A Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems/Sciences, or a related field
  • Three years of experience working as a LMS administrator, preferably in Brightspace
  • Recent experience configuring and/or implementing 3rd party LTI tools in an LMS
  • Familiarity with project management practices with the ability to focus on several competing projects at once while maintaining LMS service support that meets or exceeds customer's expectations
  • Experience using ITSM ticketing software, preferably TeamDynamix
  • Experience developing and presenting content specific workshops
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of instructional design principles, practices, and/or theories
  • Recent experience in Quality Assurance (QA) processes and practices
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and compliance standards
  • Knowledge of technical standards (i.e., IMS, SCORM, LTI) and their implementation
  • Experience working with Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
  • Experience working with Gradescope, Turnitin, Panapto, and Zoom
  • Experience working in a large complex organization, in higher education or a research environment
