Summary Statement

Provides circulation, reference services, technology, and support to library customers while delivering highly effective customer service. Assists librarians with administrative and programming support to ensure library goals and expectations are met. Works with considerable independence under general supervision.

Hillcrest Library is hiring for a full time 40 hour position.
Cole & Ustick Library is hiring for a part time 20 hour position.

Essential Functions

Provides assistance to library customers with circulation, reference and readers advisory services. Assists public with locating materials and use of an assortment of technological devices. Researches customer account information and resolves customer concerns tactfully, using discretion and initiative to meet customer needs. Schedules meeting rooms. Explain and monitors for compliance with library policies and procedures. Provides directions and general information to the public. (40%)

Researches, plans, publicizes, and delivers library programs for people of all ages and backgrounds both within library facilities, as well as at community events. Liaises with individuals and community organizations with whom the library has partnered to successfully execute program goals. Prepares program materials, creates signs, handouts, brochures, and social media posts. Publicizes promotional materials on various platforms. Develops and presents captivating displays to effectively promote library services and materials. Sets up and cleans up for programs and events. (30%)

Checks in returned materials using library computer systems. Maintains library collections by accurately sorting and shelving materials. Identifies and repairs damaged or incomplete library materials. Recommends materials for collection development. Removes materials which no longer circulate regularly. Maintains periodicals collection. Processes interlibrary loan and purchase requests. (20%)

Orders supplies for office and programs. Performs proper library opening and closing procedures. Compiles statistics and creates reports. Acts as team leader when librarians or other senior staff are unavailable. Innovates solutions for inefficient facility provisions and procedures to best promote a functional working environment. Assists with various department or division projects. (10%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 100%

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Requires education and/or experience to attain the following:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a public library or related setting

Functional knowledge of customer service techniques and office software applications.

Ability to learn and use automated library systems; work independently and use initiative while performing duties; prioritize a broad range of administrative tasks; exercise tact, patience, diplomacy, cultural sensitivity, and courtesy when dealing with customers; carry out day-to-day activities independently within established guidelines and procedures; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, and the public; multitask with strong follow through; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Two or more years of work experience in a public library or similar environment providing customer service. One or more years of event planning experience, especially involving community engagement. One or more years of digital and/or print marketing experience. One or more years of experience working directly with a multilingual/multiethnic clientele. Knowledge of the development and delivery of library programs; library research techniques; proficiency with spreadsheet and publishing software, social media platforms, and CAD software; adult and/or children's literature

Special Requirements
All applicants must be able to successfully pass City of Boise background check processes which include reference checks and criminal history checks.

Working Conditions

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 lbs and rarely lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. Also the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs, frequently pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs. The noise level is occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell, touch and feel. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.
