Minimum Qualifications: 

Associate'sdegree and customer service experience required, with Library employmentexperience strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred.

GeneralFunction: 

The SmyrnaMid-Shift (27 hours) Library Assistant is a support staff position and is amajor provider of customer service, reference services, library services,computer assistance, and one-on-one instruction to library patrons. TheMid-Shift (27 hours) Library Assistant is knowledgeable of print, non-print,and electronic resources and maintains library equipment; while providing ahigh level of customer service to students, faculty, staff, and communityusers. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability towork with numerous interruptions. This position requires a "mid-shift" workschedule approximately 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday (other hours as needed). The Mid-Shift (27hours) Library Assistant participates as an effective and active member insupport of the Smyrna campus and the library team.

Major Dutiesand Responsibilities:

1. LIBRARY DUTIES: Ensures that library services are available duringscheduled library hours, including, but not limited to: using the IntegratedLibrary System software to provide circulation services, such as checking inand checking out library materials plus shelving incoming items; maintainingthe Reserve collection; processing interlibrary loans; and providingcirculation support services, such as processing and weeding periodicals.Supervises all part time and student workers in the absence of the Smyrnalibrarian. Maintains library facilities, restocks items/supplies as needed, andensures that the library has a neat and pleasant appearance and is safe forpatrons and employees. Assists with library events and display preparation.Assists students, faculty, staff, and community users in properly usingcomputers, software, printers, photocopiers, and other library equipment andservices.

2. REFERENCE SERVICES: Assists and teaches students, faculty, staff, andcommunity users how to access and acquire information using the online publicaccess catalog, online databases, and print resources. Works regularlyscheduled hours (mid-shift during the week and other hours as needed) at theSmyrna campus library.

3. SUPERVISION: Supervises all student workers and volunteer workersin the absence of the Smyrna librarian insuring high level of customer service.

4. OTHER LIBRARY DUTIES: Records daily library statistics and gate counts.Assists in collecting and reporting library statistics data monthly to theFayetteville Library Coordinator. Produces Motlow IDs as needed for students,faculty, staff, and community users. Provides support to the Smyrna Librarianby troubleshooting library equipment, scheduling maintenance and servicerequests, keeping inventory of supplies, and ordering supplies as needed.Responsible for signage relating to library hours or closings. Usesprofessional etiquette when answering the library phone, greeting students,faculty, staff, and community users entering the library, and responding tovoicemail or email messages. Works effectively with all areas of the library,including distance education services. Must be able to lift and carry boxesweighing forty pounds and pushcarts of books and equipment from building tobuilding or room to room. May travel to other campus locations as assigned orneeded.
