The Mental Health Counselor will counsel individuals and groups (including youth and parents) to promote optimum mental health. The Mental Health Counselor will help individuals deal with anxiety; depression; thoughts of suicide; family, parenting, and school problems; stress management; and issues associated with mental and emotional health. This Mental Health Counselor will provide such services at the Child and Adolescent Mood and Anxiety Treatment Program (CAMAT; www.miami.edu/childanxiety) on the Coral Gables campus and at UM School Health Initiative clinic sites in the Overtown and North Miami-area community using evidence-based treatment protocols and as part of research studies. Participation in CAMAT outreach activities may be required. Fluency in Spanish sufficient to provide therapy to youth and families in this language is highly desired.
The Licensed Mental Health Counselor works with individuals, families, and groups in treating mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders. This position provides specialized knowledge in substance abuse, domestic abuse, grief counseling, workplace problems, and management consultation.
