Life Science Research Professional🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United StatesNew📁Research📅2 days ago Post Date📅102885 Requisition #The Pagán laboratory in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology seeks to hire a Life Sciences Research Professional 1 (LSRP1) to study mycobacterial pathogenesis and immunity in zebrafish and medaka models of tuberculosis (TB). The lab couples Mycobacterium marinum, a close genetic relative of M. tuberculosis which causes TB-like disease in fish, with transparent and genetically tractable fish species to study host-pathogen interactions mechanistically in their native environment. Zebrafish and medaka have unique, experimentally useful and biologically interesting properties that facilitate new directions in TB research. This is a great position for someone interested in gaining broad research experience in infectious diseases, human disease modeling in fish, light microscopy, and genetics. The LSRP will work at the interface of microbial pathogenesis and immunology, conducting experiments to better understand molecular mechanisms of mycobacterial virulence and host resistance and susceptibility to TB. The LSRP will also assist lab members with genetic screens to identify host determinants of resistance and susceptibility to TB and with the creation of new genetically engineered mycobacteria and fish lines. The work is highly interdisciplinary in nature and will provide ample opportunities to (1) acquire expertise in diverse areas of biomedical research as projects develop and (2) explore connections to human TB. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the lab's scientific output and culture. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular & Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics or a related field and a proven record of research accomplishment.
