Maintenance Mechanic Job Description:

Plant mechanic needed to support production in a food manufacturing and packaging facility. Facility has processing and packaging equipment. Position also includes maintaining plant utilities such as boiler, HVAC, air compressors, refrigeration compressors, anhydrous ammonia system etc. Person will also be involved in maintaining the plant facilities. This includes building and grounds maintenance. The position responsibilities shall be, but are not limited to the functions as described below:

Job Duties:

  • Involve maintenance on processing equipment, pipe fitting, welding, fabrication, carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installation of equipment.
  • Adjust and repair packaging equipment as needed.
  • Repair or replace defective equipment and parts using hand tools and power tools.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on all equipment.
  • Inspect drives, motors and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance tasks while keeping all activities well documented.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair/owner manuals, engineering specifications and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Interface with Operations to minimize downtime and maximize plant reliability.
  • Work with both Outside Contractors and Plant Operations to ensure all maintenance activities are completed in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Good Interpersonal Skills a must.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Maintaining current equipment to minimize any downtime due to breakdowns. Understand and provide calendar driven work to prevent untimely and unnecessary breakdowns. Adjust equipment during production to provide consistent and reliable performance. Assist in developing preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Provide repair and troubleshooting experience/support during a breakdown. This includes hydraulic/pneumatic troubleshooting and repair. Must be able to flow to the work during a breakdown to provide quick start-up after failure.
  • Project Work: Support on-going plant projects. This includes installation of new equipment and refurbishing of existing equipment. This also includes modifications to existing equipment to provide higher throughput and increased reliability.

Education and Job-related Training Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or GED is minimum formal education requirement
  2. Must be able to work well with others and possess sound judgement
  3. Must have basic electrical knowledge and ability to test and R&R 110-480v electric motors, circuits, and switches.
  4. Must have thorough knowledge of Lockout/Tagout and Emergency Response procedures.
  5. A general understanding of electrical systems and controls is a plus.
  6. Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance.
