We are looking for a Manager, External Reporting & Technical Accounting who will join our team.

This hybrid position will be based at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH. Not familiar with Columbus? Visit columbusregion.com/columbus-2020/

This position plays a critical oversight role in key finance processes including preparation and review of financial information to be released outside of the organization, accounting and reporting for non-routine and corporate functions, as well as impactful budgeting, forecasting, business analysis and M&A activities. This position is involved in various cross-functional activities and has significant exposure to business unit and corporate leadership.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements and disclosures ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Review consolidated financial statements and provide guidance to the team in all aspects of accounting
  • Oversee the accounting and forecasting for certain non-routine and corporate functions such as share-based compensation, pensions, legal, impairment, etc.
  • Perform analysis of operational results, involving collaboration with various levels of business unit and corporate leadership
  • Build and grow cross-functional relationships to collaboratively work together to resolve month end issues and solve process efficiencies
  • Evaluate and continually improve accounting procedures, processes and systems to ensure standardized close process and efficient operations
  • Develop team members into future finance leaders
  • Participate in cross-functional M&A activities including financial diligence, accounting and reporting matters
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls by maintaining and improving systems, processes, and data

What you'll need to be successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 7+ years of public accounting experience or equivalent foundation in SEC filings and GAAP
  • Intellectual curiosity, strong initiative and leadership
  • Proven track record to thrive in a dynamic environment under tight timelines and changing priorities
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational management skills
