Position Summary:

The Manager, HEIC, along with the JHHS Director and Sr. Director, HEIC is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, implementation, and coordination of the HEIC activities to ensure departmental, hospital and its' affiliated ambulatory sites, and health system goals and objectives are met.

He/she is responsible for the oversight of the HEIC activities including developing long and short-term goals, hiring and performance management of staff, oversight of departmental orientation and training, coordination of policy development, oversight of surveillance data collection and dissemination, coordination of outbreak investigations, compliance with regulatory requirements, developing departmental budget and ensuring the department is fiscally responsible, supervision of the HEIC departmental staff, direction and oversight of preparedness for high consequence pathogens and supporting infection prevention research projects.

He/she applies advanced knowledge of principles and practice of infection prevention and control, epidemiology, infectious diseases, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, microbiology, management, performance improvement, change management, personnel development, and program development. He/she promotes innovation and excellence in clinical, service and team performance.

Education:

A Master's of Science degree in a field pertinent to infection control/hospital epidemiology is a prerequisite. Relevant experience can be substituted for a master's degree.

Work Experience:

A minimum of five years of experience in epidemiology and infection control in an acute care setting.

Licensure/Certification:

Certification in Infection Control required

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of patient care aspects that relate to infection control, healthcare epidemiology, performance improvement and patient safety. Has a strong background in infection control, infectious diseases, leadership, business and managerial theories and concepts, and performance improvement.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills based on achievement and experience in a senior infection preventionist role is a requirement for the position. Ability to use a variety of analytical techniques to solve problems.
  • Leads change within the organization related to infection control practices.
  • Analyzes and interprets complex data sets and reports (e.g. surveillance and outbreak investigation data, financial data related to healthcare- associated infection and products, and quality population specific reports) to improve patient, financial and quality care outcomes.
  • Utilizes verbal, non-verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships.
  • Negotiates resolution of issues that are consistent with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Problem-solves and appropriately confronts issues.
  • Creates a climate that fosters compassionate care, innovation, cooperation, collaboration and teamwork.
  • Uses automated systems to access, transmit and produce information. (e.g.) e-mail, spreadsheet, word processing, Internet).
  • Achieves results by effectively working through subordinates and other partners within the organization.
